Considering that it’s on pace to gross around $38 million this weekend, Four Christmases has a shot at topping the $39.2 million opening weekend haul ($42.4 million when adjusted for inflation) of 2006’s The Break-Up, which is currently Vince Vaughn’s best opening weekend in a starring role.
Chances are that Christmases will also represent a personal best for Vaughn’s co-star, Reese Witherspoon. Witherspoon’s top opening weekend haul to date is Sweet Home Alabama, which grossed $35.6 million during its opening frame in September 2002 (which equals around $43.6 million when adjusted for inflation).
The opening weekend is very important for
considering that it won’t have much appeal after December 31. Still, the fact that it’s probably going to beat
this weekend is no small accomplishment, considering that many predicted the vampire flick would spend its sophomore frame on top of the box office.
