The Golden Globe nominations came with more than their share of surprises. After winning Best Picture from the New York Film Critics circle on Wednesday, Milk did not receive a nomination for Best Drama and neither did The Dark Knight. Milk 's Josh Brolin was also snubbed for his acclaimed supporting performance.

Tom Cruise landed a Supporting Actor nomination for his scene-stealing role in Tropic Thunder and co-star Robert Downey Jr. also received a nod.

After being snubbed this week by a handful of critics groups, Revolutionary Road was able rebound with nominations for Best Drama, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress. The nods will considerably help the film's Oscar chances.

Underdog performances by Richard Jenkins in The Visitor and Melissa Leo Frozen River also received the cold shoulder, which denies them both some much needed Oscar momentum.
