By being named the Best Film of 2008 by the New York Film Critics Circle, Milk has cemented its reputation as one of the finest films of the year. This win will certainly help the biopic grab one of the five Best Picture spots when the Academy Award nominations are announced.
Other than Milk, Happy-Go-Lucky picked up a lot of momentum from the NYFCC Awards. Sally Hawkins was named Best Actress, which comes right after the Los Angeles Film Critics Association gave her the same prize Tuesday afternoon. While Kristen Scott Thomas was once considered the favorite to win the Best Actrees Oscar for her performance in I've Loved You So Long the buzz may now be on the side of Hawkins.
Here is the complete list of winners:
Best Film: Milk
Best Actor: Sean Penn, Milk
Best Director: Mike Leigh, Happy-Go-Lucky (There seems to be a growing amount of support for this film...)

Best Animated Film: WALL-E (This means that there won't be a repeat of the surprise L.A.Critics Best Film award. Will Academy voters know where to place this film?)
