The Possession should have no problem fending off The Words and The Cold Light of Day during what's shaping up to be a very slow frame.
Horror junkies were largely deprived of their fix all summer, so it's no surprise that The Possession is exceeding expectations. Still, that won't stop the Lionsgate release from suffering a typical sophomore decline. Yet even with the inevitable drop, The Possession still has enough strength to stop weak newcomers from claiming the #1 spot.
As of 4 p.m. PT, Fandango reports that The Possession leads daily sales with 10%.
Look for The Possession to grab $8 million this coming weekend.
The Words will be a breath of fresh air to adults looking for something more low-key after a summer full of blockbusters. Unfortunately, the CBS Films release looks like it will also have to settle for low-key grosses. Interest on Facebook and Twitter is very low compared to other films, and Bradly Cooper is not a reliable draw yet.
Fandango reports that The Words did not crack the top 5 today.
The Words should make $7 million from around 2,700 locations during its debut frame.
The Raiders of the Lost Ark will live again in IMAX theaters this weekend. IMAX fans will be happy for new (well, sort of) blood since The Dark Knight Rises has been hogging IMAX screens since July.
Fandango reports that Raiders did not crack the top 5 today.
Expect Good Ol' Indy to grab $3.5 million this coming weekend.
The Cold Light of Day is being released with a whimper. Expectations are very low for the Bruce Willis vehicle. It will definitely finish outside the top 10.
Fandango reports that The Cold Light of Day didn't crack the top 5 today.
A $2 million debut looks likely for The Cold Light of Day.
