aug30.pngThree films are currently slated to open on Labor Day weekend: Closed Circuit debuts on Wednesday, August 28, followed by One Direction: This Is Us and Getaway on Friday, August 30.

One Direction: This Is Us

PROS:

- A built-in audience of obsessive, young female fans.
- Justin Bieber's concert film hauled in an impressive $73 million in 2011.

CONS:

- Not all concert movies break out (see Katy Perry: Part of Me).
- Is One Direction as popular as Justin Bieber was at his peak? We doubt it.

Getaway

PROS:

- Labor Day weekend holds very little competition at the moment.
- Ethan Hawke is on a semi-hot streak lately thanks to The Purge and Sinister.
- Adding Selena Gomez to the cast could help appeal to teenage audiences.

CONS:

- Labor Day weekend isn't typically known for breakout movies.
- August is jam-packed with thrillers, which could suffocate demand for another one.

Closed Circuit

PROS:

- Labor Day weekend holds very little competition at the moment.
- The cast includes well-regarded names in Eric Bana, Rebecca Hall, and Jim Broadbent.

CONS:

- None of the cast are known for being box office draws.
- Labor Day weekend isn't typically known for breakout movies.
- May be a little too serious and grim for moviegoers craving one last burst of escapism at the multiplex.

Notable changes on our forecast this week include Grown Ups (up), Pacific Rim (down).

I think I would spend my money on something thrilling and exciting like Getaway of Closed Circuit & not One D. Wouldn't you rather watch a documentary at home?

What do you think?
