BOX OFFICE ACTUALS: Heavyweights Stay on Top, But 'Anna Karenina' Pulls Highest Per-Screen

on March 20, 2013

Unsurprisingly, Oz: The Great and Powerful held on to the top spot on the Brazilian charts this weekend, with A Good Day to Die Hard clinging on to the #2 spot with $669K in its fourth week of release, barely enough to beat the locally made drama The Quest, starring Elite Squad's Wagner Moura. But what shouldn't get lost in the shuffle is the Keira Knightley period piece Anna Karenina's strong debut. A debut rank at #9 doesn't look like much, but Anna Karenina's per-screen haul was $6,909 -- the highest of any film in the top 30, and a full $2,600 above Oz's per-screen take. If demand keeps up, expect Knightley's art house flick to have legs.
