Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters scored a very positive opening weekend in Brazil. The film posted a $3.7 million debut, an improvement over the original's $2.2 million opening. The first Percy Jackson film went on to gross $8.6 million in Brazil, a figure the sequel should hit in its run.
The weekend's other Hollywood premiere, Grown Ups 2, also improved above its previous outing in Brazil. A $1.5 million debut for the ensemble comedy marked a 55% increase above the original Grown Ups film.
Pacific Rim saw its debut last weekend overshadowed by The Smurfs 2. The Smurfs sequel continued its success in Brazil with a $1.7 million hold in its third frame that raises its cue to $11.3 million. Pacific Rim finished its second weekend with a $1.2 million hold, bringing its Brazilian cume to $4.6 million.
The Wolverine continued its blockbuster run in Brazil. The superhero spin-off put up a $1.2 million performance over the weekend to reach a $19.6 million cume in its fourth frame.
