BRAZIL: 'Percy Jackson' Continues its Strong Run

pj-sea-of-monsters01.jpgPercy Jackson: Sea of Monsters spent another weekend leading the Brazilian box office, overshadowing strong performances from a trio of comedies to reach an $8.5 million cume. The sequel has proven popular since its August 16 premiere and is poised to surpass the original's $8.6 million lifetime total in the territory in the coming days.

The Internship posted a $1 million debut in second place, finishing ahead of third place comedy Grown Ups 2 in a lukewarm debut. Grown Ups 2 closed the weekend with a $4.5 million debut. Local comedy Drive if You Can premiered in fourth place with a $766k bow, a debut that produced a middling $1,620 per-screen average. The weekend's biggest milestone was accomplished by The Wolverine, which hit the $21 million mark after a successful run since its July 26 premiere.
