BRAZIL: '300' Continues to Impress, 'Need for Speed' Off to a Slow Start on March 19, 2014

300still.jpg300: Rise of an Empire kept the top spot in Brazil for a second consecutive weekend after adding $3.1 million from 460 screens. The 300 sequel has now grossed $11.1 million in the market. The film also led all other releases in the per-screen average category with a $6.8k average. 

Domestic film Alemao enjoyed a #2 debut, overshadowing the premiere of Need for Speed. Alemao finished the weekend with a $1.4 million opening haul from 318 screens. Need for Speed settled for third place with a $1.2 million bow from 335 screens.

'Need for Speed' Finishes Third in Brazilian Debut on March 17, 2014

Need for Speed struggled in its Brazilian premiere with a third place finish behind a hold-over and a domestic opener. 300: Rise of an Empire kept the top spot in the market, while domestic film Alemão took second place -relegating the video game adaptation to a #3 debut. The $1.3 million opening weekend recorded by Need for Speed is only a small fraction of the $6.3 million bow that set off Fast & Furious 6 on the road to a $24 million cume in Brazil last year. 

'RoboCop' Crosses $12M on March 17, 2014

robocop.jpgRoboCop continues its strong run in Brazil. The sci-fi remake helmed by Brazilian director Jose Padilha grossed $880k in its fourth frame in Brazil, reaching a cumulative total of $12.4 million in the market. 

'Rise of an Empire' Keeps Top Spot, Crosses $10M on March 17, 2014

300still.jpg300: Rise of an Empire continues to rule the Brazilian box office after scoring another weekend atop the country's top ten chart. The 300 sequel kept 45% of the Top 5 market share in Brazil with a $3.5 million gross from 776 screens. The running total for the film currently stands at $10.9 million.
