'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' Hits $550M Worldwide Following Strong Week in China on May 11, 2014

spidey2.pngThe Amazing Spider-Man 2 hit $550 million mark worldwide after scoring a $69.5 million weekend overseas to bring its running tally outside of North America up to $403 million.

IMAX screenings contributed $8 million globally over the weekend, bringing Spidey's IMAX cume up to $38 million worldwide. China has brought in $6.3 million from IMAX after 8 days in release; the Spider-Man sequel continued to thrive in its first full week of release in China with a $25.1 million haul that brings its market cume up to $54 million.

'My Old Classmate' Keeps Top Spot as 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' Takes Big Opening Day Haul, 'Transcendence' Continues to Stumble on May 06, 2014

my_old_classmate.jpgChinese comedy My Old Classmate kept the top spot in China for a second consecutive week, adding $34.63 million throughout the week to reach a $52.3 million cume. 

Domestic thriller The Great Hypnotist took a 5 day opening week tally of $22.28 million to finish its first frame in second place.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 took a big $9.75 million opening day take, leading to what will likely be a big tally in the next frame.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier finished its first full month of realse in China with a $7.58 million take, bringing its Chinese total up to a stellar $115.62 million.

Rio 2 slowed down in its fourth frame to a $5.71 million take. The animated sequel has grossed a total of $37.95 million in China.

Johnny Depp sci-fi vehicle Transcendence continues to struggle overseas, as it tumbled down to #8 in its third frame in China. Transcendence has grossed a total of $20.28 million in the market, disappointing after a promising start that overshadowed the film's lackluster opening weekend in North America.

'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' Records $10.4M Opening Day Total in China on May 04, 2014

spidey2.pngThe Amazing Spider-Man 2 took a big single-day debut in China with a $10.4 million tally from Sunday alone. Sunday was a workday in China, making the Spidey sequel the biggest opener of all time for a workday. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 recorded the biggest ever screen count for a new release in China, where it opened across 11,002 screens.

The Spidey sequel is looking to top the previous installment’s $758 million global total. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has grossed a total of $377 million worldwide after three weeks of release, including this weekend’s $92 million opening from North America.
