'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' Records $10.4M Opening Day Total in China on May 04, 2014

spidey2.pngThe Amazing Spider-Man 2 took a big single-day debut in China with a $10.4 million tally from Sunday alone. Sunday was a workday in China, making the Spidey sequel the biggest opener of all time for a workday. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 recorded the biggest ever screen count for a new release in China, where it opened across 11,002 screens.

The Spidey sequel is looking to top the previous installment’s $758 million global total. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has grossed a total of $377 million worldwide after three weeks of release, including this weekend’s $92 million opening from North America.

 

'Captain America 2' Cedes Ground to Domestic Films as 'Transcendence' Falls to a Mid-Table Finish on April 30, 2014

image.jpgA pair of local films took the top two spots in China this week, as comedy My Old Classmate and martial arts action comedy Ice Man 3D took big opening weekends to bump down Captain America 2 to third place in the country's top ten chart.

My Old Classmate claimed the top spot with a $17.31 million debut from its first three days on the market. Ice Man 3D was not far behind with an $11.28 million opening weekend.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier settled for third place in its fourth weekend in China with an $8.94 million weekly tally. The superhero sequel is up to $107.22 million in the market.

Transcendence tumbled down to a mid-table spot in its first full week at the box office. The Johnny Depp sic-fi vehicle added $7.17 million to take its Chinese total to $17.82 million after ten days in release.

Rio 2 slowed to a $6.78 million take to finish the week with a $31.79 million cume in China.

'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' Becomes Disney's Second Highest Grossing Chinese Release of All Time on April 27, 2014

capamerica.jpgCaptain America: The Winter Soldier is the second highest grossing Disney film of all time in China, where it has earned $107.6 million. The top grossing Disney film in the market continues to be Iron Man 3 with a $121.2 million cume.
