Focus' Hanna led the daily box office for a second consecutive day on Tuesday. The action film starring Saoirse Ronan, Eric Bana and Cate Blanchett grossed $1.07 million. That gave Hanna a very slim lead of $26,287 over Universal's HOP for the day. Hanna was up a solid 11 percent over Monday's performance, though a number of wide releases did experience even larger percentage increases over Monday. Hanna has grossed a better than expected $14.41 million through five days of release and has a good chance of holding up well as it goes forward.
HOP finished in a very close second with $1.05 million. The Easter themed family film was up 16 percent over Monday, but still down a sizable 60 percent from last Tuesday. That is a strong indication that the film is set to take a big hit from Fox's Rio when it enters the marketplace on Friday. HOP has greatly exceeded expectations thus far with a twelve-day gross of $69.71 million and will surpass the $70 million mark today. The film is currently running 4.5 percent behind the pace of Paramount's Rango at the same point in its run.
Warner's Arthur held steady in third place with $0.98 million. The PG-13 comedy remake starring Russell Brand was up a healthy 22 percent over Monday, which represented the film's best daily hold up to this point. With that said, Arthur is still running below expectations with a five-day start of $14.01 million. That places Arthur a sizable 37 percent behind the pace of last summer's Get Him to the Greek.
Your Highness grossed $0.80 million to continue to claim fourth. After holding up well on Monday, Universal's R-rated comedy was up just 8 percent on Tuesday, which represented one of the day's poorer daily holds among wide releases. Your Highness has grossed a disappointing $10.91 million through five days and is likely to take a big hit this weekend, especially with the R-rated Scream 4 entering the marketplace on Friday.
Summit's Source Code was up one spot and 26 percent from Monday to round out Tuesday's top five. The sci-fi thriller grossed $0.72 million for the day, which was down 51 percent from last Tuesday. Source Code has grossed a so-so $29.52 million to date and it set to reach the $30 million mark today.
In limited release, Born to Be Wild 3D crossed the $1 million mark yesterday. The IMAX nature documentary from Warner Bros. was up 31 percent from Monday with a daily gross of $84,198 and has grossed $1.02 million in its first five days.
