'The Dark Knight Rises' Easily Fends Off 'Total Recall' and 'Wimpy Kid 3'

on August 05, 2012 by Phil Contrino

Warner Bros. estimates that The Dark Knight Rises will take in $36.4 million during its third weekend in theaters after grabbing $10.4 million on Friday and $14.5 million on Saturday. $5.6 million of that total will come from IMAX shows. For comparison's sake, The Dark Knight made $42.7 million during its third weekend.

Total Recall is off to a respectable start domestically. The Sony release managed $9.1 million on Friday and $9.4 million on Saturday. A 56% combined approval rating from more than 37,000 Flixster users does not bode well for the sci-fi flick's staying power in the weeks to come. Total Recall tallied $6.2 million internationally.

The Diary of a Wimpy Kid franchise has official run out of steam. Fox's family skewing flick took in a lackluster $5.9 million on Friday and $5.1 million on Saturday. More than 14,000 Flixster users have combined to give Dog Days a solid 81% approval rating.
