Iron Man 3 grossed $5.16 million on Tuesday to lead the daily box office for a twelfth consecutive day. It remained a fairly close race at the daily box office on Tuesday, with Disney's blockbuster superhero sequel topping Warner's The Great Gatsby by $204,053 for the day. Iron Man 3 increased 12 percent over Monday and was down 54 percent from last Tuesday. Iron Man 3 has grossed $294.72 million in twelve days and it set to reach the $300 million domestic milestone on Thursday. The film is currently running 35 percent stronger than the $218.48 million twelve-day take of 2010's Iron Man 2 and 24 percent behind the $389.47 million twelve-day start of last year's Marvel's The Avengers.

The Great Gatsby took in $4.96 million to remain in second place. The Baz Luhrmann directed film starring Leonardo DiCaprio was up a healthy 14 percent over Monday. Tuesday's hold was especially impressive given that the film was coming off of a strong Monday hold. With The Great Gatsby skewing heavily towards older moviegoers, it is likely that midweek grosses for the film will remain relatively strong going forward. The Great Gatsby continues to outpace pre-release expectations with a five-day start of $59.41 million. The film is currently running 72 percent ahead of the $34.61 million five-day start of last year's Dark Shadows.

Paramount's Pain and Gain held steady in a distant third with $0.600 million. The Michael Bay directed film starring Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson was up 27 percent over Monday and has grossed $42.68 million in 19 days of release. Paramount's box office prospects will be much brighter this weekend with the highly anticipated Star Trek Into Darkness launching on Thursday.

Tyler Perry Presents Peeples continued its very disappointing start with $0.347 million on Tuesday. The comedy from Lionsgate starring Craig Robinson and Kerry Washington has grossed just $5.26 million through five days of release.
