Warner Bros. reports that Man of Steel grabbed another $9.002 million on Wednesday, representing a 21.8 percent drop from Tuesday. With Game 7 of the NBA Finals tonight (Thursday), the film (among others) should take an expected hit before rebounding for what BoxOffice forecasts will be a $52 million second weekend. Man of Steel's 6-day total currently stands at $161.78 million, running 18 percent, 33 percent, and 66 percent ahead of the 6-day starts for The Amazing Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Superman Returns, respectively. A finish well over $300 million domestically continues to appear likely.
This Is the End continues to enjoy healthy drops as strong word of mouth keeps driving the apocalyptic comedy. Sony reports the film grossed $2.89 million yesterday, down just 14 percent from Tuesday. The film has surpassed Pineapple Express in terms of comparable day grosses, and meanwhile continues catching up to the pace of Tropic Thunder. This Is the End has banked $42.69 million in 8 days and is on target for a $12.7 million sophomore frame.
Lionsgate/Summit's Now You See Me took in $1.464 million on Wednesday, a 15 percent drop from Tuesday and just 26 percent down from Wednesday of last week. The film's domestic cume through 20 days of release is $85.38 million, running 34 percent ahead of the gross for 2008's 21 through the same point in release. BoxOffice forecasts a $6.7 million upcoming weekend for the hit thriller.
