Insidious Chapter 2 grossed $1.20 million on Thursday to lead the daily box office for a seventh consecutive day. The low-budget James Wan directed horror sequel from FilmDistrict fell 3 percent from Wednesday. Insidious Chapter 2 was easily the week's top film with a strong seven-day start of $46.36 million. That was 6 percent below the $49.16 million seven-day start of 2010's Paranormal Activity 2 and an impressive 167 percent stronger than the $17.36 million seven-day take of 2011's Insidious. Due in part to its significant early front-loading, Insidious Chapter 2 is widely expected to slip to second place this weekend (behind Warner's Prisoners).

Relativity's The Family rounded out its first week in theatres with $0.949 million on Thursday to hold steady in second place. The Luc Besson directed film starring Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer was down 8 percent from Wednesday, which represented the day's poorest daily percentage hold among wide releases. The Family placed in second for the week with a respectable seven-day start of $18.64 million. That places the film 12 percent behind the $21.11 million seven-day start of 2008's Righteous Kill and 48 percent ahead of the $12.58 million one-week take of 2011's Killer Elite.

Universal's Riddick took in $0.529 million to remain in third place. The third installment of the Vin Diesel led sci-fi franchise was down 3 percent from Wednesday and down 48 percent from last Thursday. Riddick placed in third for the week with $9.24 million. That was down 62 percent from the film's opening week performance and brings the film's two-week total to $33.51 million, which is a bit below expectations.

On the platform front, Fox Searchlight's Enough Said took in $26,000 from four locations in New York and Los Angeles. The romantic comedy starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus and the late James Gandolfini was down 6 percent from Wednesday. Enough Said has grossed $53,734 in two days of platform release and will continue to play in four locations over the weekend.
