Disney's Thor: The Dark World led the way on Monday with $10.42 million. The Marvel superhero sequel starring Chris Hemsworth was down 52 percent from Sunday, as Monday's grosses in general received a boost from the Veterans Day holiday. Thor: The Dark World has grossed $96.16 million in its first four days of release, which is in line with the film's wide-ranging expectations. The film is running 35 percent ahead of the $71.13 million four-day take of 2011's Thor and 6 percent behind the $101.89 million four-day start of last year's Skyfall. Thor: The Dark World is set to surpass the $100 million domestic milestone today.

Free Birds placed in second for the day with $2.59 million. Relativity's 3D computer animated film was down just 27 percent from Sunday and up a massive 269 percent over last Monday. Veterans Day is traditionally a strong day for family films and that was clearly the case yesterday for Free Birds. Free Birds has grossed $32.72 million through eleven days and is displaying strong holding power thus far. The film is currently running 7 percent ahead of the $30.65 million eleven-day take of 2010's Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole.

It was a close three-way race for third place on Monday, with Lionsgate's Ender's Game just edging out CBS Films' Last Vegas and Paramount's Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa. On the heels of this weekend's harsh decline, Ender's Game took in $1.58 million on Monday. That was down 46 percent from Sunday and down 16 percent from last Monday. Ender's Game has grossed $45.59 million through eleven days, which places the film 4 percent behind the $47.35 million eleven-day gross of After Earth earlier this year.

Last Vegas claimed fourth place with $1.55 million. The modestly budgeted ensemble comedy trailed Ender's Game by a slim $26,257 for the day. Last Vegas fell 49 percent from Sunday and was up 14 percent over last Monday. The film has grossed $35.02 million in eleven days, and like Free Birds, is displaying strong holding power so far.

Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa rounded out Monday's top five with $1.48 million. The successful Jackass spin-off starring Johnny Knoxville was down 53 percent from Sunday and down 4 percent from last Monday. Bad Grandpa surpassed the $80 million mark yesterday and has grossed a stronger than expected $80.25 million in 18 days.

Warner's Gravity placed in sixth with $1.23 million. The blockbuster 3D sci-fi drama fell 48 percent from Sunday and was up 38 percent over last Monday. With a 39-day take of $232.48 million, Gravity is currently the seventh highest grossing release of 2013 domestically. The film will soon surpass the $234.91 million final gross of Oz: The Great and Powerful to move into sixth place.
