Long Range Forecast: 'Captain America: The First Avenger' and 'Friends With Benefits'

Featured Stories - on May 28, 2011 by Phil Contrino

captainamericaforecast.pngWe've added Captain America: The First Avenger and Friends With Benefits to our Long Range Forecast this week. Both films are scheduled to open on July 22.

Captain America has one big advantage and one big disadvantage. The advantage is that it's a very recognizable property with a sizable built-in base. The disadvantage is that it'll be the fourth superhero origin story to open this summer. We're betting that moviegoers will be experiencing a bit of superhero fatigue after watching Thor, X-Men: First Class and Green Lantern. That may end up hindering Captain America's opening weekend at the very least.

Friends With Benefits has a great cast, but it will be hard for it to shake comparisons to No Strings Attached. Both films have pretty much the same plot and they are aimed at the same age group. As a result, our expectations are modest at this point.

Check out our predictions for these films as well as others in the table below.
