Long Range Forecast: 'Carrie' & 'Escape Plan'

Featured Stories - on August 23, 2013 by BOXOFFICE Staff

oct18.pngThe remake of Carrie and the Arnold/Sly pic Escape Plan have been added to our forecast this week. Both are slated to open on Friday, October 18.

Carrie

PROS:

- The original 1976 film is considered a classic by horror buffs.
- Chloe Moretz has become an increasingly familiar young actress to audiences thanks to Hugo, Kick-Ass, Dark Shadows, Let Me In, and (500) Days of Summer.
- Julianne Moore also gives the remake some star power.
- Being the only horror opener close to Halloween is a big advantage.

CONS:

- Are today's younger horror audiences interested in a Carrie remake?
- While increasingly popular, Moretz has yet to lead a film to big success.

Escape Plan

PROS:

- The promise of another Arnold+Sly film could entice their fan bases.
- As one of the few action films releasing in the fall, its prospects could be better than The Last Stand and Bullet to the Head

CONS:

- The aforementioned Last Stand and Bullet to the Head were major box office flops earlier this year.
- Both stars have stumbled in recent years, with even The Expendables 2 under-performing against its predecessor.
