INDIA: 'Shuddh Desi Romance' Leads the Week with $5.5M Debut on September 13, 2013
Shuddh Desi Romance posted a hot start out of the gate with a $5.5 million debut in India, leading all other domestic films in release. Zanjeer came in second place with a $2.2 million bow, around half of Shuddh Desi Romance's take despite playing in a market-leading 1,888 screens.
Satyagraha came in third place with a $1.1 million take, taking its domestic total to $9.5 million. The film grossed $130,086 from 79 location in its second week in North America and enters its third weekend in the market with a $700k total.
Chennai Express collected $81,343 from 53 locations in North America over the week. The film has grossed a total of $5.2 million as it heads into its sixth weekend in North America. Chennai Express has grossed a total of $34.3 million in India.
