'Grand Masti' Debuts in North America with $362k on September 24, 2013

Grand Masti had a terrific $10.5 million debut in India, but the raunchy comedy couldn't muster as much support in North America. Grand Masti took in $362,560 from 64 locations in North America during its opening weekend. 

 

Phata Poster Nikla Hero was released in 94 locations in North America this weekend and grossed $260,188. 

 

Satyagraha is closing up its run in North America, adding $5,359 over its fourth weekend in 9 locations in the U.S. and Canada. The film has grossed a total of $736,826 in its North American run. 

 

Chennai Express will go down as one of the most successful Indian exports at the North American box office. The blockbuster film has grossed a total of $5.29 million in North America. Chennai Express played in 20 locations over the weekend and grossed $21,853.

GrandMastiStills.jpgGrand Masti enjoyed a big opening in India, grossing $10.5 million in its debut frame across 1,141 screens. The adult-themed comedy sequel has stirred mixed emotions from critics in India, where the edgy comedy sequel's success already has fans calling for a third entry.

Suddh Desi Romance fell to second place in its second week, adding $1.3 million to its tally. The Indian cume for the film is now $7 million. Shudd Desi Romance is playing in a market-leading 1,888 screens.

Horror Story saw a positive $711k debut from 895 screens, while John Day saw a limited release in 456 theaters where it grossed $245k.

Satyagraha closed in on the $10 million mark with a $234k take in its third week. The film should reach the milestone in the coming week. Chennai Express is still enjoying its blockbuster run after six weeks in release. Chennai Express has grossed a total of $35 million from India.

INDIA: 'Shuddh Desi Romance' Leads the Week with $5.5M Debut on September 13, 2013

sdrstills.jpgShuddh Desi Romance posted a hot start out of the gate with a $5.5 million debut in India, leading all other domestic films in release. Zanjeer came in second place with a $2.2 million bow, around half of Shuddh Desi Romance's take despite playing in a market-leading 1,888 screens.

Satyagraha came in third place with a $1.1 million take, taking its domestic total to $9.5 million. The film grossed $130,086 from 79 location in its second week in North America and enters its third weekend in the market with a $700k total.

Chennai Express collected $81,343 from 53 locations in North America over the week. The film has grossed a total of $5.2 million as it heads into its sixth weekend in North America. Chennai Express has grossed a total of $34.3 million in India.
