Friday Update #1: Fandango reports that Skyfall led online sales on Thursday with 61%. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 accounted for 21%, and The Hobbit ended up at 7%.
On MovieTickets.com, Skyfall led on Thursday with 59% (41.74% for standard screens and 17.05% from moviegoers buying tickets for Skyfall: The IMAX Experience). The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 tallied over 23%, followed by The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey with just under 5%.
Hobbit fans should not panic. It's understandable that Peter Jackson's latest effort is being overshadowed by Skyfall and Breaking Dawn - Part 2 for the simple reason that those films hit theaters first. The Hobbit will surely dominate sales closer to its release date.
Boxoffice.com is currently predicting $85 million for Skyfall this weekend. We're predicting a $148 million opening for Breaking Dawn - Part 2 next weekend, and a $137 million opening for The Hobbit.
