UPDATED: 'Les Misérables' Approaches $50 Million Domestically

Saturday (12/29) Update: Universal estimates a $9.4 million Friday gross for Les Misérables, bringing its four-day total to $48.8 million.
Friday (12/28) Update: Universal reports that Les Misérables grossed $9.2 million on Thursday, pushing its cume to $39.4 million.
Thursday (12/27) Update: Universal reports today that Les Misérables grossed another $12.159 million domestically on Wednesday. The North American total now stands at $30.27 million after two days.

Les Misérables grossed an estimated $18.1 million yesterday, making it the 2nd highest Christmas Day opening in history behind Sherlock Holmes which opened on a Friday in 2009 to $24.6 million. Les Mis now holds the record for the biggest non-weekend Christmas Day opening in history, besting Marley & Me, which opened on a Thursday in 2008 to $14.4 million. It is also the highest ever opening day for a musical.
Les Misérables received an A CinemaScore overall, with females (56% of the audience tracked) rating our film A+, and not one other category broken down by age gave it less than an A.
