Can 'Red Dawn' Unseat 'Die Hard'?
on March 01, 2013
The Chris Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson action film Red Dawn, a remake of the '80s Patrick Swayze classic about a teen uprising against a local invasion, storms theaters in Brazil this weekend in an attempt to steal the #1 slot away from A Good Day to Die Hard. Red Dawn performed modestly in the U.S., but star Hemsworth was in Brazil's biggest hit of 2012, The Avengers, which should give the film a boost. (Hutcherson's own two films, The Hunger Games and Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, made just $15 million in the country.) However, in addition to fighting back the film's North Korean villains, the Red Dawn team must also fend off Buddies, the locally-made Downs Syndrome road trip comedy by Brazilian director Marcelo Galvalo, which has done a decent job drumming up press and could be a surprise smash.
