on March 19, 2014

needforspeed.jpgNeed for Speed was the top film of the weekend at the Russian box office with a $5.5 million opening haul from 1,050 screens. The new release dethroned 300: Rise of an Empire; the 300 sequel settled for second place in its second frame with a $3 million take from 1,399 screens. 300: Rise of an Empire has grossed a total of $14.6 million in Russia.

Mr. Peabody & Sherman slipped to third place in its second frame with a $2.3 million tally. The animated film has grossed a total of $8.7 million in its Russian run.

Non-Stop underwhelmed with a $1.5 million debut from only 620 screens. A $2.5k per-screen-average reveals it performed competitively in relation to other releases, but the film had better potential than a fourth place opening. Wes Anderson's The Grand Budapest Hotel nearly upset Non-Stop, finishing in fifth place with a $1.2 million haul from 554 screens.
