Chinese mainland box office sales have topped 10.02 billion yuan (about 1.61 billion U.S. dollars) so far this year, with domestic productions taking about 56 percent of the market share, said the country's film watchdog on Friday.
In 2013, the Chinese market took six months to hit 10 billion and this year it happened in a little less than five.
China's The Monkey King remains #1 this year with 1.04 billion yuan, but Captain America: The Winter Soldier is #2 with 718 million yuan.
