There is no stopping The Croods in Australia. The animated film regained the #1 spot at the box office, unseating last week's winner Oblivion and beating out newcomer Olympus Has Fallen with a $2.1 million gross. The Croods has now grossed $20.7 milion in Australia, twice as much as any other individual film currently in the top ten.

Olympus Has Fallen might have missed out on the top spot but found solace in having the best per-screen performance over the weekend, with a $8,734 average in 230 screens. The $2 million opening narrowly edged Oblivion's $1.9 million weekend. Escape from Planet Earth and Zambezia gambled on a higher screen count on their fourth week in release and were rewarded with a higher weekend gross than in the previous week. The strategy worked with Australian audiences, as the films bumped off A Good Day to Die Hard ($11.3 million cume) and Oz: The Great and Powerful ($15.6 million cume) from this week's list.

Olympus Has Fallen premiered at #1 over the weekend after Oblivion fell 67% in its second week in the U.K. The $3.4 for Olympus might not compare to last weekend's $7 million for Oblivion. Evil Dead did its part to eat into Oblivion's second week grosses; the horror film premiered with $2 million in 394 screens. The Croods added another million to raise its U.K. cume to $36.1 million. Academy Award winning director Susanne Bier's Love is All You Need, her follow-up to 2010's In a Better World, fared well in limited release. The film played in 131 screens and grossed $307,894. The Place Beyond the Pines was the strongest hold-over, falling only 13% in 181 screens to bring its U.K. cume to $2.5 million. Danny Boyle's Trance fell off the chart in its fourth week. The latest thriller from the Trainspotting director has grossed $6.6 million to date in the U.K.

Nosotros Los Nobles enjoyed its first week as #1 in the Mexican box office and became the highest grossing Mexican film of all time in the domestic market. The film might not have the art house credibility of the work of auteurs like Alejandro González Iñárritu or Alfonso Cuarón but has proved to be a massive success in its home country, outgrossing every other film in release in its fourth week. The film only fell 17% from last week and scored the highest per-screen average, adding $1.9 million to reach a $14.8 million cume. The Mexican film has benefited from a well orchestrated distribution campaign by Warner Bros. and a strong marketing presence. Nosotros Los Nobles has already outgrossed G.I. Joe: Retaliation after sharing the same release date. 

Oblivion and The Croods were still able to draw crowds over the weekend, grossing $1.6 and $1 million, respectively. The Croods has been an overwhelming success in Mexico with a $24.7 million cume in the country. It is the highest grossing film in release.

Olympus Has Fallen was the odd man out over the weekend, opening in fourth place without breaking the $1 million mark. Its high screen count labels it a bigger disappointment than fellow new releases, Dark Skies and This is 40, which placed in the bottom half of the top ten with a respectable per-screen average considering a limited run in under 250 theaters. Evil Dead performed the best among all hold-overs, retaining ninth place by only dropping 16% from last weekend. 

Tlatelolco: Mexico del 68 premiered outside of the top ten with a strong $1,276 average from 86 screens. The Mexican political drama recounts a particularly difficult time in the country's history, as big a departure as possible from the class comedy of Nosotros Los Nobles. Tlatelolco's $109,699 gross is still admirable considering the heavy competition it faced from three U.S. premieres over the weekend.
