ANNA FARIS TO RECEIVE “CINEMACON® COMEDY STAR OF THE YEAR AWARD” on April 17, 2012
WASHINGTON D.C. -- Anna Faris will receive the "CinemaCon Comedy Star of Year Award," it was announced today by the convention's managing director, Mitch Neuhauser. CinemaCon, the official convention of The National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO), the largest and most important gathering of cinema owners and operators from around the world, will be held April 23 - 26, 2012 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Faris will receive this special honor at the "CinemaCon Big Screen Achievement Awards" ceremony Thursday evening, April 26, in The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. The Coca-Cola Company, the official presenting sponsor of CinemaCon, will host the final night gala awards program.
"With a signature no-holds-barred approach, Faris best exemplifies the spirit and nerve of comedy cinema today," said Neuhauser. "Her charm and unassuming wit capture our hearts time and again with each new performance. For this, and for keeping the state of comedy vibrant, Faris could not be more deserving of the ‘CinemaCon Comedy Star of the Year Award.'"
Faris will be seen next starring opposite Sacha Baron Cohen in Paramount Pictures' "The Dictator," in theaters May 16, 2012. Directed by Larry Charles, written by Sacha Baron Cohen, Alec Berg, David Mandel and Jeff Schaffer, and also starring Ben Kingsley, "The Dictator" is the heroic story of a dictator who risks his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed.
Originally from Seattle, Faris started acting in the theater at a young age. Since her early start, she has gone on to star in numerous films. Some of her feature film credits include: the Oscar-nominated "Lost in Translation," "Observe & Report," "Brokeback Mountain," "Smiley Face," "Yogi Bear," "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs," "Alvin and The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel," "Take Me Home Tonight," "Mama's Boy," "Just Friends," "Waiting" and the "Scary Movie" franchise - Dimension Films' most successful franchise to date. She also starred in and produced "The House Bunny" in 2008. On the small screen, Faris has had memorable recurring roles on "Entourage" as herself and on the final season of "Friends," where she played a surrogate mother to Monica and Chandler's adopted baby.
Faris was last seen in Twentieth Century Fox and New Regency's romantic comedy "What's Your Number?" alongside Chris Evans, which she also executive produced. She is currently shooting Working Title's "I Give it a Year" alongside Rose Bryne and Simon Baker.
FANDANGO SURVEY UNMASKS “THE AVENGERS” AS THE MOST ANTICIPATED MOVIE OF THE SUMMER on April 17, 2012
LOS ANGELES -- Fandango, the nation's leading moviegoer destination, today revealed the results of its "Most Anticipated Summer Movie Survey," in which Marvel's "The Avengers" grabbed the top spot among all films picked by both men and women. The poll - which surveyed thousands of moviegoers on their must-see list for the biggest movie season of the year - also revealed that this may be a huge summer for Australian newcomer Chris Hemsworth, who stars in two of the summer's most anticipated releases.
Male and female moviegoers offer a decidedly different perspective on the can't-miss films of the summer. While women gravitated to the revisionist Kristen Stewart fairy tale drama, "Snow White and the Huntsman," men stuck to their guns with action adventures -- like "The Avengers" and "The Dark Knight Rises," which ranked number one and two on the most anticipated summer movie list.
"It's clear from the Fandango survey that there's something for both men and women at the movies this summer," says Fandango Editor-in-Chief Chuck Walton. "After an incredible first quarter, Hollywood is delivering even more spectacular choices for moviegoers in what's shaping up to be one of the biggest summers in years. As our survey indicates, all eyes will be on Chris Hemsworth. The Australian heartthrob, who stars as ‘Thor' in ‘The Avengers,' and as the male lead in ‘Snow White and The Huntsman', sits atop both the men's and women's ‘Most Anticipated' lists."
According to Fandango moviegoers, below are the top picks among men and women:
Men's Picks for Most Anticipated Summer Movie:
1. "The Avengers" 31%
2. "The Dark Knight Rises" 23%
3. "The Bourne Legacy" 14%
4. "Men in Black 3" 8%
5. "Prometheus" 7%
Women's Picks for Most Anticipated Summer Movie:
1. "Snow White and the Huntsman" 22%
2. "The Avengers" 16%
3. "Men in Black 3" 13%
4. "The Dark Knight Rises" 10%
5. "Dark Shadows" 8%

Fandango is geared up for the summer, the busiest moviegoing season of the year, on the heels of its most successful first quarter in the company's nearly 12-year history. As Fandango's ticket sales surged 127% over last year, the company also partnered with AMC Theatres, Regency Theatres and other chains to expand its theater network reach by 19%. The quarter also included Fandango's newly-signed ticketing deal with Yahoo, and the launch of Fandango's enormously popular Facebook Timeline app, "Movies with Friends."
