LOS ANGELES, CA -- Fandango, the nation's leading moviegoer destination, announced today that it set a new record with "The Avengers" for the most tickets sold for any opening weekend in the company's 12-year history. On top of that, Fandango also set records for the largest percentage of tickets sold via mobile on the weekend (42% of Sunday sales), as well as the top hourly sales record - selling as much as 68,000 tickets per hour during peak sales times (Friday, May 4 from 3-4 pm PT).
The previous record-holder was "The Hunger Games," which sold 60,000 tickets during a peak ticket-selling period. The company also saw its top-selling single day (May 4, 2012) for a movie, beating "The Hunger Games" opening day on March 23, 2012.
