CULVER CITY, Calif. -- Columbia Pictures, Happy Madison and Hasbro, Inc. are in final talks to develop Candy Land, a live action movie based on the bestselling Hasbro board game with Adam Sandler attached to star, it was jointly announced today by Doug Belgrad, President of Columbia Pictures, Hannah Minghella, President of Production for Columbia Pictures, and Brian Goldner, Hasbro President and CEO. Kevin Lima (Enchanted) is attached to direct the project for the studio with Sandler and Robert Smigel are in talks to write the screenplay.
Commenting on the announcement, Belgrad said, "Candy Land is more than just a game. It is a brand that children, parents and grandparents know and love. The world of Candy Land offers an extraordinary canvas upon which to create a fantastical, live-action family adventure film with a larger than life part for Adam. We are thrilled to partner with Hasbro and Happy Madison on this project."

"Sony/Columbia has been a wonderful creative partner as we develop another of our games, Risk, for the big screen. Candy Land is one of the most beloved and best known games of all time. Created in 1949, it has been played by generations of families. In the game, players go on a magical journey through fantastical lands made of candy, sweets, and ice cream: the Peppermint Forest, the Gum Drop Mountains, and the Lollypop Woods. Along the way, players encounter such iconic characters as Princess Frostine, Lord Licorice, Mr. Mint, and King Candy.
The project will be produced by Goldner (Transformers) and Hasbro's Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Motion Pictures, Bennett Schneir (Battleship) along with Happy Madison Productions. At Columbia, development of Candy Land will be overseen by Sam Dickerman.
Mumbai -- Eros International Media Ltd (Eros International), a leading global company in the Indian film entertainment industry has announced a smash hit opening for Agneepath overseas. In its opening weekend, the film has shown collections of Rs. 16 crore in the international markets. Eros released Agneepath internationally on 337 screens, the highest ever for any Hrithik Roshan film.
Agneepath grossed £347,000 in UK in its first weekend (4 days). This is the highest opening weekend collections for any '15' rated Indian film. Agneepath is also ranked No 10 on UK Top 10 Box Office.
In the United States, the four day first weekend collections are US$ 1.3 million, reflecting a healthy average of $10,000 plus per theatre. In UAE too, Agneepath has grossed over US$ 800,000 in four days, indicating the enormous support consumers have shown for this film. Other strong performing territories are Australia, Pakistan, Singapore, South Africa, Mauritius and Kenya.
Commenting on the film's overseas performance, Pranab Kapadia, President - Marketing & Distribution - Eros International plc said, "Agneepath has done extremely well in all the overseas markets making it the first blockbuster of the New Year. The tremendous response has been very encouraging with all major markets indicating remarkable box office results".

Produced by Dharma Productions, Agneepath has been directed by Karan Malhotra and released across cinemas worldwide on 26th January. Along with the fantastic box office collections, the film opened to very positive reviews appreciating the stellar performances of its leading cast including Hrithik Roshan, Sanjay Dutt, Priyanka Chopra and Rishi Kapoor.
After noticing that The Grey lacked an end credit certifying that "No Animals Were Harmed," Boxoffice contacted the American Humane Association for the full story. The AHA volunteers to send a monitor free of charge to all Hollywood productions to verify that all animals used in the film -- from dogs to bears to birds to bugs -- were well-treated. Every year, over 2000 films receive their seal of approval. Below is the AHA's official statement on why The Grey did not receive certification, and their confirmation that they are looking into online stories suggesting that the production bought and ate trapped wolves.
American Humane Association monitored the live animal action during the filming of The Grey. Our Certified Animal Safety RepresentativeTM on the set of the movie ensured the humane treatment of all of the animals used in this film. The movie does not however carry the American Humane Association "No Animals Were Harmed"® end-credit certification. Our process in awarding the end-credit includes a screening of the locked motion picture, which we were not given. Productions must be screened to determine cohesiveness with all of our on-set documentation.
American Humane Association Film & TV Unit has strict guidelines that must be followed by all productions in order to earn the "No Animals Were Harmed"® certification. These guidelines include the necessity for any production to provide accurate, legal receipts for any taxidermy animal props used. At no time did American Humane Association witness the use of taxidermy wolves or wolf carcasses during filming, nor did we receive any such receipts for this type of prop. We can verify that extensive sophisticated animatronics were used consistently during the filming of The Grey.
Online allegations regarding the consumption of wolf meat by cast members of The Grey, have not been verified and sources within the production and distribution entities have not returned our phone calls of inquiry. American Humane Association does not permit the trapping and/or killing of any animals for use in filmed entertainment.
