A pic of Jim Carrey as Ebeneezer Scrooge in the Robert Zemeckis motion capture version of A Christmas Carol has landed online via a foreign film website .
Carol is one of the many high-profile 3D releases of 2009. Zemeckis used similar 3D technology to bring Beowulf to the screen in 2007, and that film was met with a positive mainstream reaction since it grossed $82.2 million domestically. Carol is set to hit theatres on November 6, and it also stars Gary Oldman, Colin Firth and Robin Wright Penn.
Even though the Carol story has been adapted many times in the past, this latest version should make for a solid holiday hit at the box office.
In addition to Carol, 2009 will see the release of another Carrey film titled I Love You Phillip Morris. In Morris, Carrey stars as a man in prison who escapes several times to be with another male inmate (Ewan McGreggor) that he fell in love with. The film is debuting at Sundance, and it may be a tough sell among conservative mainstream audiences.
Carrey's most recent film, Yes Man, has been posting some relatively solid numbers. So far it has grossed $81 million domestically, and it should sneak slightly past $100 million by the end of its theatrical run.
