John Malkovich and Josh Brolin will reportedly be entering the comicbook genre in Jonah Hex, an adaptation of a DC Comics property which will be housed at Warner Bros. The storyline focuses on vengeance and confederate soldiers.
Malkovich recently delivered effective supporting performances in Clint Eastwood's Changeling and Burn After Reading from the Coen Brothers. While Changeling failed to catch on as well as it could have domestically, Reading was a solid hit for the Coen Brothers with a domestic haul of $60 million.
As for Brolin, he's definitely in the prime of his career. After rising to new heights in 2007 thanks to
No Country for Old Men
and
American Gangster, Brolin kept up the momentum in '08 with
W.
and
Milk. Even though he will inevitably lose the award to the late Heath Ledger, Brolin is nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for
Milk. Both
W.
and
Milk
won Brolin praise, but they failed to find a mainstream audience. The two films have each grossed $25 million domestically, the only difference is that
W.
is now on DVD and
Milk, which is still playing theatrically, will benefit from Oscar exposure.
