Bryce Dallas Howard’s script for The Originals, a drama co-written by Dane Charbeneau, has been optioned by Universal Pictures—and it may, in fact, be developed by Academy Award-winning director Ron Howard, her father.

The Originals follows a group of 20-year-olds who return home to New York to cope with the fact that their favorite childhood teacher has fallen into a coma. Howard wrote the script over the past two years.

The actress, who has landed lead roles in M. Night Shyamalan’s Lady in the Water and The Village, last appeared in Terminator Salvation. Salvation has grossed a relatively disappointing $105 million domestically since opening in May, competing against action flicks like Star Trek and her father's latest film, Angels & Demons, which has garnered over $400 million worldwide.
