Diane Lane will reportedly star in the upcoming Disney picture, Secretariat, about the life of the famous racehorse and the woman who owned him. Braveheart scribe Randall Wallace is attached to direct. Disney may perhaps be attempting to capitalize on the success of similar films from the past, such as Seabiscuit.

Lane’s last major role was in the 2008 romance feature Nights in Rodanthe with Richard Gere, which grossed $41.8 million domestically.

Wallace’s last turn in the director’s chair was with Mel Gibson in the 2002 war drama We Were Soldiers, which grossed a modest $78 million domestically—about $96 million when adjusted for inflation.
