The long-unseen actor will go to court next week

Remember way back in 2006, when Mel Gibson was arrested for a DUI in Malibu, and made all those anti-Semitic remarks just in time to tarnish the credibility of Apocalypto later that year? Well, one week from today, Gibson will go to court and ask to have the infamous DUI expunged from his record, having fulfilled the terms of his three-year probation.

If Gibson is successful, things could be looking up for the actor-director, who has seemingly been out of the biz since Apocalypto. He is also set to act in a major role for the first time since 2003's The Singing Detective —he will soon be seen in front of the camera again in Edge of Darkness next year and Jodie Foster's The Beaver in 2011, as well as several multihyphenate roles he has in development.
