Mike Nichols will receive the 38th Lifetime Achievement Award this year from the American Film Institute. Michael Douglas was the last recipient.
Even at age 77 Nichols is not slowing down. The legendary director is currently circling two projects: High and Low, which is a remake of the Akira Kurosawa kidnapping thriller and Deep Water from a novel about infidelity by Patricia Highsmith ( The Talented Mr. Ripley ).
Nichols most recently directed Charlie Wilson's War, which was able to rake in a respectable $66.6 million domestically.
