LOS ANGELES - ShoWest has named Sam Worthington ShoWest Male Star of the Year, it was announced today by Robert Sunshine, managing director of the event, which will be held March 15-18, 2010, in Las Vegas. Worthington will be presented with the ShoWest Male Star of the Year Award at ShoWest's Final Night Banquet and Award Ceremony on Thursday, March 18, at Bally's and Paris Las Vegas.

"Having been hand-picked by James Cameron to star in the highest-grossing film of all time, Avatar, Sam Worthington has taken Hollywood by storm and is not looking back," said Sunshine. "From Terminator Salvation to his upcoming release Clash of the Titans, Worthington's star power will continue to grow, and we are thrilled to honor him as this year's ShoWest Male Star of the Year."

Releasing in theaters in 3D on April 2, 2010, Worthington will star in the Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures action fantasy Clash of the Titans. The ultimate struggle for power pits men against kings and kings against gods, as the war between the gods themselves could destroy the world. Born of a god and raised as a man, Perseus (Worthington) is helpless to save his family from Hades (Ralph Fiennes), vengeful god of the underworld. With nothing left to lose, Perseus volunteers to lead a dangerous mission to defeat Hades before he can seize power from Zeus (Liam Neeson) and unleash hell on earth.

After graduating from Sydney's prestigious National Institute of Dramatic Arts Worthington went on to build upon his theater background appearing in some of Australia's most acclaimed television shows, including "Love My Way" and "The Surgeon." He made his feature film debut in the Australian film Bootmen, which garnered him an Australian Film Institute (AFI) Award nomination. His additional Australian feature film credits include Dirty Deeds, Gettin' Square and Romper Stomper. A critically acclaimed performance in Somersault earned him an AFI Award for Best Actor in a leading role. Worthington went on to land roles in films, including Hart's War, Rogue and Terminator Salvation, before starring in James Cameron's Avatar, which has grossed more than $2.35 billion to date and has earned nine Academy Award nominations. In addition to the upcoming Clash of the Titans, Worthingon can be seen later this year in Tell Me, opposite Keira Knightley, and The Debt, with Helen Mirren.
