'Life of Pi' Reaches $220 Million Overseas

The latest stats from Fox:

LIFE OF PI takes the competition by storm, powering its way to a $39.2m weekend from 8,394 screens in 56 markets. The International cume sails past $220m, as PI's International box office journey continues in earnest across the world. Excellent openings in Germany ($7.1m from 704), Norway ($1.2m from 250), Denmark ($1.1m from 113), Austria ($639K from 119), Peru ($639K from 129), Central America ($406K from 130) and Turkey ($403K from 177) are supported by Excellent and Outstanding holds in UK ($6.6m from 1,015), France ($4m from 637), Italy ($2.3m from 351), Mexico ($2.3m from 1,384), Brazil ($1.7m from 404), Sweden ($1m from 167) and Holland ($1m from 105) - all of which exceeded their already impressive opening numbers this past weekend!

The theatrical run of LIFE OF PI in China ended last Sunday, Dec. 23, with the film earning an outstanding $90.8m, making it the #3 foreign film of 2012 in China, behind TITANIC 3D and MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 4. It is Fox's all-time 3rd highest grossing film in China, behind AVATAR and TITANIC, and the Industry's 5th highest grossing foreign title of all-time, behind AVATAR, TRANSFORMERS 3, TITANIC and MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 4.

LIFE OF PI opens in 9 new markets this coming week, including Australia, Russia and South Korea, followed by Japan on January 25.
