GLOBAL: 'Despicable Me 2' Crosses $500M Overseas; 'Runner Runner' Posts $11.2M Head Start

Despicable Me 2 crossed the $500 million overseas mark after a $3.6 million bump from 41 territories over the weekend. The Minions held on to the top spot in Japan for the second consecutive weekend with a $2 million take. Despicable Me 2 has grossed $12.2 million after 9 days in Japan and $863.5 million worldwide. The movie is Universal's second-higehst grossing film of all time behind Jurassic Park's $921 million.

Runner Runner got a $11.2 million head start before its North American release next weekend. The gambling thriller played in 4,007 screens across 38 markets. The film impressed in Russia with a $2.9 million first place performance. Runner Runner also took the top spot in the Ukraine, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, and Romania. The film will be released in 33 additional markets throughout the month of October.

Turbo crossed the $100 million overseas after earning $6.1 million from 13 markets this weekend. The animated film has grossed $181.9 million worldwide with 17 markets still to come, including key players like the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

Planes added $7.9 million to its overseas tally, taking its total outside of North America to $81.4 million. The animated film has grossed $169.1 million worldwide. The top markets for Planes are the United Kingdom ($12.5M), Spain ($7.5M), Mexico ($6.6M), and Germany ($6.4M). France, Italy, and Japan are the last three remaining key markets for the animated film.

We're the Millers keeps on performing well overseas. The film continued its successful run around the world with a $7.1 million take from 56 territories. The raunchy comedy has grossed $95.4 million overseas and $237.8 million worldwide. A $701K bow in Brazil put the film above the debuts of releases like No Strings Attached, 21 Jump Street, and Horrible Bosses in the market. The top markets for We're the Millers are Russia ($17.8M), the United Kingdom ($12.7M), Germany ($9.7M), and Australia ($8.7M).

The Conjuring brought in $7 million 58 markets, taking its overseas cume to $160.4 million. The low-budget horror film has grossed a terrific $297.1 million globally and should reach the $300 million mark by next weekend. The top markets for the film are Mexico ($18.6M), the United Kingdom ($16M), Russia ($10M), France ($9.6M), Australia ($8.1M), and Spain ($7.9M).

Prisoners ruled the box office in the United Kingdom, beating openers Runner Runner and Blue Jasmine with a $2 million bow from 401 screens. Prisoners has grossed $6.3 million overseas from 22 markets. The film's global total is $45.1 million.

Riddick frossed $4.1 million from 53 markets in its fourth weekend overseas. The sci-fi flick has grossed $44.7 million outside of North America and $83.1 million worldwide. Brazil, Mexico, and South Korea are the last remaning major markets for the latest entry in the Pitch Black franchise.

R.I.P.D. took $1.5 million from 17 territories to reach a $39.5 million overseas cume. A $425k opening in Brazil became the latest disappointment for Universal's dud of the summer. The film has grossed $73.1 million worldwide with four territories left to open, including key players Mexico and Japan.
