LAS VEGAS - Galaxy Theatres, LLC is celebrating Earth Day and the movie opening of Earth on April 22, 2009. Continuing to raise awareness and supporting our local community, Galaxy Cannery is teaming up with The Springs Preserve by providing "Earth" movie prize packages to the winners of their "Green Dreamers Art and Science Fair." This event will be held on Saturday, April 25 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Springs Preserve, located at 333 S. Valley View Boulevard, across from the Meadows Mall.

"We are proud to be a part of this unique event," said Frank Rimkus, chief executive officer for Galaxy Theatres, LLC. "Galaxy Theatres is committed to providing use of our state-of-the-art theatres to support important social issues and reward the individuals who strive to meet the needs of the community."

Earth Day is a celebration to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's environment. Participants in the Green Dreamers Art and Science Fair are contributing to the celebration by using their artistic skills to express their concerns about current issues, hope for change, or their appreciation for our natural environment through sculpture, video, photography, painting, drawing, or other media. Those more technically inclined are contributing to a more eco-friendly world by presenting their projects for the future. All ages and levels of experience are entered.

Participants have already met the deadline for entry of April 3, 2009. Exhibit judging will take place the day of the event, Saturday, April 25 from 2 - 2:30 p.m. First, second and third place prizes will be awarded for Adult Individual, Adult Group, Youth Individual and Youth Group in both art and science. Judging for science projects will be determined by accuracy, innovation, presentation, potential impact on the environment, use of sustainable material, functionality and feasibility. Judging for art projects will be determined by use of sustainable materials, environmental theme of the project, presentation quality, creativity and potential impact on the audience. One prize in each of the four categories will be awarded, including a Family Four-Pack of movie tickets and popcorn to the Galaxy Cannery Theatre to see the movie Earth.

Earth the movie opens on Earth Day, April 22, 2009. It is a creation of Alastair Fothergill, the award-winning documentarian. As the producer of the television series Planet Earth, he brought rarely seen footage of our planet into audiences' living rooms. Now, as a director, Fothergill is bringing his astounding footage to the big screen. He has done his best to squeeze his view of the world into this 90-minute nature documentary.

NEW YORK - The Cinema Advertising Council (CAC), has elected Landmark Theatres' Senior Vice President of Sales Michael Sakin to its Board of Directors, as director, cinema advertising vendors representing less than 5,000 screens. He will also continue to serve in his role as chair of the CAC marketing committee. The CAC Board of Directors is selected each March at its annual meeting at ShoWest.

A media veteran with more than 20 years in the field, Mr. Sakin has spent 16 of those years in national cable. During that time, he held various positions, eventually making his way to SVP of advertising sales at Fox Cable Network Group and later as SVP at Game Show Network.

For the past four years, Mr. Sakin has focused on the out-of-home market, heading up ad sales for the Ultimate Fighting Championship before dedicating himself to cinema where he served as VP of national sales for Screenvision until his current position at Landmark Theatres.

The other CAC board members have retained their positions. CAC Chairman and President Dave Kupiec (executive vice president of sales and marketing for National CineMedia) and Executive Director Andrew Blacker (senior vice president, marketing and research, Screenvision) continue as directors, cinema advertising vendors representing 5,000 screens or more, and Stewart Harnell (president and CEO, Cinema Concepts), is director representing affiliate members.

LAS VEGAS, NV - Cruising the aisles at this year's ShoWest-filmdom's annual paean to all things cinematic where theatre owners, manufacturers, studios, and the press all co-mingle to find out what's new and exciting-one could stroll past booths showcasing everything from the latest incarnations of popcorn to high-end digital technology. In the latter category, one standout was QSC's DCP 300, a comprehensive digital cinema processor ideally suited for both D-Cinema upgrades and new installations.

Making its industry debut in booth #1509, the device showed-off its power to combine 24-bit, 16-channel D-Cinema processing with DSP crossover functions and remote, Ethernet-based monitoring and control features that can give guidance to entire audio systems. Capable of receiving up to eight AES pairs of input from D-Cinema servers on two DB25 connectors, the DCP 300 facilitates network digital audio transport as well, via CobraNet, to easily accommodate future expansion.

"The reaction the DCP 300 received at this show was nothing short of phenomenal," says QSC Senior Director of Cinema Solutions Barry Ferrell. "We've never drawn this kind of attention from a product launch, ever. You go into these things knowing in your heart that you have a great product, but you can't help but develop a case of nerves the night before the show opens. The overwhelming positive response we received was definitely a big validation from the outside world that we got it right."

Ferrell credits the DCP 300's full feature set as being one of the primary factors drawing wide attention to the product. Among these features, the device's full compatibility with QSC's DCA amplifiers allows it to be added to applications converting to digital projection without the need for replacing existing amps. Housing advanced DSP crossover settings for the QSC family of DCS loudspeakers supporting up to five active two-way, three-way, or four-way screen channels, the device additionally offers full 1/3 octave graphic EQ on all channels (except subwoofer), a master volume and master mute, and an internal pink noise generator. 10 channels of analog inputs have also been thoughtfully provided for legacy 35 mm film processors. Dual power supplies further complement the package, along with complete parameter backup via SD memory.

"From an end-user's standpoint, these are all features inherently designed to keep you on-screen or get you back up quickly," Ferrell adds. "That means the show goes on, night-after-night, uninterrupted."

User interface on the DCP 300 is simple and intuitive using a color LCD touchscreen found on its front panel. A speaker also located on the front panel lets users keep tabs on either selected mixes of inputs or outputs, or any individual amplifier output channel. Line-level hearing and visually impaired outputs are furnished as standard equipment as well. Network support includes compatibility with QSC's QSControl and QSCreator, plus instrumentation and status indicators.

Toronto, Ontario: Cineplex Entertainment Limited Partnership ("Cineplex") announced today it has signed a binding agreement with Onsite Media Network Inc. ("Onsite") pursuant to which Cineplex would acquire all of the issued and outstanding shares of Onsite through a shareholder approved Plan of Arrangement (the "Arrangement"). Onsite is an Alberta-based digital signage network company that broadcasts advertising and custom content to premium office towers and sports stadiums across Canada. The total transaction value is approximately $1.7 million. The Arrangement is conditional on Onsite shareholder approval as well as upon the usual and customary regulatory conditions and the approval by the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta. Cineplex has signed voting agreements with Onsite shareholders representing approximately 67% of the total number of shares outstanding.

The Onsite network includes a Sports Stadium Network with 1,000 screens located at GM Place (Vancouver), Pengrowth Saddledome (Calgary), Rexall Place (Edmonton) and Scotiabank Place (Ottawa) as well as the Office Tower Network which features approximately 200 screens located in public concourses and food courts throughout 22 Brookfield Property Management Ltd. office towers. These marquee office properties in Toronto's vibrant PATH system include, among others, First Canadian Place, TSX Exchange Tower, Brookfield Place (formerly BCE Place), and Hudson's Bay Centre at Bloor and Yonge, and in Calgary at Banker's Hall, Royal Bank Building, 5th Avenue Place, and coming soon to Petro Canada Centre. Additional network locations are in Place DeVille I and II in Ottawa. The Onsite network will add more than 120 million annual impressions to the current Cineplex Media offerings.

"Adding Onsite enables us to expand our advertising reach beyond our theatres and into some of Canada's premier, high-traffic facilities. Through Cineplex Media, we already have the content, the sales force and the business relationships in place. This acquisition extends our reach further to new audiences in office towers and stadiums," said Ellis Jacob, President and CEO, Cineplex Entertainment.

The Arrangement is expected to close on or about April 30, 2009.
