On August 27, Avatar will return to movie theaters across the country.

LOS ANGELES  -- Twentieth Century Fox and James Cameron today announced that Avatar: Special Edition will be released in theaters August 27, in a limited engagement and exclusively in Digital 3D and IMAX 3D.

This version of Cameron's history-making and groundbreaking epic will include more than eight minutes of new footage. Since - and largely as of result of -- Avatar's release last December, the number of available digital 3D screens has exploded, and moviegoers who missed experiencing the film in 3D will now have that opportunity.

Commented James Cameron: "Audiences repeatedly told me they wanted more of Pandora, and wished they could have stayed there longer. So we're making that possible. Avatar: Special Edition will be exclusively in 3D, and will have eight minutes of never before seen footage, including new creatures and action scenes. Whether you already love the movie, or you've never seen it, with this Special Edition, you'll be seeing it like never before."

The Oscar and Golden Globe winning epic is the highest grossing film of all time, taking in over $2.7 billion in worldwide box office. It is also the top-selling Blu-ray disc of all time.

Beverly Hills, CA -- A trio of Oscar® recipients - director Kathryn Bigelow, film editor Anne Coates and documentarian Michael Moore - make up the year's first-time electees to Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Board of Governors. Coates received her award for the editing of "Lawrence of Arabia," Moore won in the Documentary Feature category for "Bowling from Columbine," and Bigelow received Oscars® this year in the Directing category and as one of the producers of "The Hurt Locker." In addition, nine incumbents were reelected and three other filmmakers will return to the Board after a time away.

The reelected governors are Curt Behlmer, Sound Branch; Rosemary Brandenburg, Art Directors; Richard Edlund, Visual Effects; Leonard Engelman, Makeup Artists and Hairstylists; Charles Fox, Music; Jim Gianopulos, Executives; Hawk Koch, Producers; Marvin Levy, Public Relations; and Frank Pierson, Writers.

Returning to the board after a hiatus are John Bailey, Cinematographers; Ed Begley, Jr., Actors; and Jon Bloom, Short Films and Feature Animation. Bailey previously served on the board from 1996 to 2002; Begley and Bloom both were governors from 2000 to 2009.

Fourteen of the Academy's 15 branches are represented by three governors, who may serve up to three consecutive three-year terms. Terms are staggered so that each branch elects or reelects one governor each year. The Makeup Artists and Hairstylists Branch is represented by a single governor.

LOS ANGELES, CA -- YouTube joins world famous filmmakers Ridley Scott and Kevin Macdonald in asking people around to world to help them create the first user-generated feature-length documentary film shot on a single day - July 24, 2010. Life in a Day is a historic global film experiment that enlists the global community to capture a moment of their lives on Saturday, July 24 and to upload that footage to www.youtube.com/lifeinaday.

Academy Award-winning director Kevin Macdonald (State of Play, Last King of Scotland, Touching the Void) will direct, bringing together the most compelling footage into a feature-length documentary film. The project will be executive produced by Ridley Scott (Robin Hood, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down) and produced by his company Scott Free Productions. Individuals whose footage makes it into the finished film will be credited as co-directors and 20 of these contributors will be flown to the 2011 Sundance Film Festival for the film's world premiere.

Life in a Day is one of several efforts by YouTube to push the boundaries of music, art, and now film. YouTube Symphony Orchestra and the recently announced YouTube Play partnership with the Guggenheim are examples of the convergence of online video with traditional arts and Life in a Day takes this effort into the cinematic realm. LG Electronics is supporting Life in a Day as a key part of its long-standing Life's Good campaign and to support the creation of quality online content that can be shared and enjoyed by all.

The director, Kevin Macdonald says of the project, "Life in a Day is a time capsule that will tell future generations what it was like to be alive on the 24th of July, 2010. It is a unique experiment in social filmmaking, and what better way to gather a limitless array of footage than to engage the world's online community."
