Will Smith is now attached to star as Cain in The Legend of Cain, a re-telling of the Biblical tale that will have a "vampiric twist." No director is attached at this time.
With the safe and comfortable Men in Black III set to begin filming in August, Smith certainly has room to take a risk on a more unconventional project like Cain.
According to Warner Bros., Inception was able to rake in $3 million from midnight shows. That puts Inception in the same ballpark as Avatar, which brought in $3.53 million back in December 2009. Avatar debuted to $77 million, but it's looking highly unlikely that Inception will hit that. Then again, predictions range from $40 million to $80 million.
Christopher Nolan's mind-bender has a 79% approval rating from nearly 195,000 users on Flixster. That's a great sign for a film that needs to convince moviegoers to take a chance on it. Debates over Inception are already raging and that will help it build a must-see aura real quick.
Fandango.com is reporting that Inception represents 66% of daily sales as of 10 a.m. PT. A survey of more than 1,000 ticket buyers revealed the following:
Q: Which elements of Inception appeal to you?
• 72% noted "the fresh concept."
• 71% picked "the cast."
• 62% selected "the director."
• 55% said "the special effects."
• 51% chose "the action"
• 48% picked "the genre."
Friday Update: Disney is estimating $3,214,000 for Thursday, for a two-day cume of a little more than $7 million.
Official opening day gross is $3,873,997.
The early estimate from Disney for The Sorcerer's Apprentice's opening day is $3,715,000. That's a disappointing haul for a film with the kind of pedigree that comes with a Jerry Bruckheimer/Nicolas Cage collaboration. An updated number will be released later today.
While it has a shot at rebounding slightly over the weekend, things are not looking good for Sorcerer's Apprentice.
Nicolas Cage confirmed on the Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson that he has signed on to star in a sequel to the Ghost Rider that will be written by the team of Neveldine/Taylor (the Crank films).
Cage can currently be seen in The Sorcerer's Apprentice, which is not shaping up to be one of the actor's biggest hits.
The first Ghost Rider raked in nearly $116 million domestically.
