The award was presented during the Simulation Australia Annual Awards Dinner held August 26 in Adelaide, South Australia.

The Project Innovation Award is part of the Simulation Australia 2014 Awards organized by Simulation Australia, the national body that promotes the use of simulation, training and modeling for the advancement of Australia's economy and society. This national award recognizes and celebrates innovation and excellence in simulation by project teams in Australia and New Zealand that have achieved outstanding results in delivering a new simulation capability or utilizing a simulation capability in a new and improved way.

The Christie Matrix StIMTM LED illuminated simulation projection system was deployed to power the new upgraded visual system of the Wedgetail E-7A Operational Flight Trainer, which is used for training Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) flight crew. The retrofitted visual system resulted in an astounding improvement to the visuals of the flight simulator, and proved itself as a reliable operating platform by providing 100 percent uptime for over 16 months. This translated into continued availability round the clock and a lower lifecycle cost. This new visual system also enabled the Wedgetail E-7A Operational Flight Trainer to retain the FSD-1 Level 5 standard - the highest level of accreditation in Australia using LED technology, making it the first of its kind in the Australian simulation community.

Michael Bosworth, general manager, Christie Australia, and Jim Gray, business development manager, Christie Australia, were presented with the Project Innovation Award during the awards presentation ceremony held at the Adelaide Oval. This is the second national level award that Christie Australia has won this year, following its win of the DTC Annual Defence Industry 2014 Innovator Award for the Christie Matrix StIMTM WQ 1-chip DLP® projection system.

Tuesday Morning Update: November Man had a strong increase on Tuesday of 197% as it rose to 2,286 tweets. A ways up from its skinny Monday of 768 tweets.  Its Facebook numbers rose less than 2 points to 107,623 likes, from 106,007 likes on Monday. While the increase percentage was very nice its overall number is still very tiny and leaves a lot to be desired. By comparison, Three Days To Kill had 2,503 tweets and 79,167 likes the day before its release back in February. The increase yesterday saw it draw closer to 3 Days than I thought possible so it could very well reach double digits by the end of Sunday. Its Wednesday tweets on opening day should nail it down tighter but its safe to say this won't be challenging for top spot on the weekend.

As Above/So Below actually dropped on Tuesday by 6% to 3,449 tweets, down from 3,657 tweets on Monday. On Facebook it also had a tiny increase of <1% to 517,274 likes, up from 514,539 likes the day before. Horrors stalling like this in release week are not uncommon but usually it is at much higher tweet levels. By comparison, Deliver Us From Evil had 4,768 tweets and 314,675 likes three days before its release (it was a Wednesday opener so that was a Sunday), while The Quiet Ones had 1,482 tweets and 165,556 likes. Still looks like it has enough gas in the tank to best The November Man but the low stagnating tweet marks are a worry. This is one that could definitely end up in single digits unless it sees a big uptick by tomorrow.

Guardians of the Galaxy continued to lead the way on Monday with $1.66 million. The blockbuster sci-fi superhero adaptation from Disney and Marvel was down 66 percent from Sunday and down 42 percent from last Monday. Guardians of the Galaxy has grossed a massive $253.12 million in 25 days. That currently ranks the film as the third highest grossing release of 2014 thus far domestically (behind only Captain America: The Winter Soldier and The Lego Movie). Guardians of the Galaxy is now just $6.65 million away from surpassing Captain America: The Winter Soldier for first place.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles claimed second place with $1.29 million. Paramount's successful franchise re-launch fell 74 percent from Sunday and 54 percent from last Monday. Grosses in general were down significantly from last Monday, as the end of the summer season approaches closer. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles continues to exceed expectations in a big way with $146.83 million through 18 days of release. That leaves the film just $3.17 million away from reaching the $150 million domestic milestone.

Warner's If I Stay placed in third with $1.27 million. The low-budget drama starring Chloë Grace Moretz fell 61 percent from Sunday, which represented one of the day's stronger daily percentage holds among wide releases. If I Stay continues to perform towards the lower end of pre-release expectations with a four-day start of $16.95 million. That places the film a slim 1 percent behind the $17.17 million four-day start of last year's Carrie.

Let's Be Cops followed in fourth place with $1.03 million. Fox's low-budget action-comedy fell 65 percent from Sunday and a significant 51 percent from last Monday. Let's Be Cops has grossed a very solid $46.09 million through 13 days of release, especially with its price tag in mind. The film is currently running 21 percent behind the recent $58.59 million 13-day take of Tammy.

The Weinstein Company's Sin City: A Dame to Kill For rounded out the day's top five with $0.616 million. While the graphic novel adaptation sequel was down just 60 percent from Sunday, in the larger picture the film continues to disappoint in a very big way with a four-day start of only $6.93 million. That is well below all expectations and is 78 percent softer than the $31.12 million four-day take of 2005's Sin City.

Fellow new release When the Game Stands Tall placed in eighth with $0.562 million. The low-budget sports drama from Sony was down a sharp 73 percent from Sunday. When the Game Stands Tall has grossed a modest $8.94 million in four days, which is just under pre-release expectations.

Monday Morning Update: As Above/So Below started its release week with 3,657 tweets and 514,539 likes. It should be filling seats with the usual horror crew which means big social media numbers are normal. By comparison, Deliver Us From Evil had 3,970 tweets and 310,171 likes four days before its release (it was a Wednesday opener so that was a Saturday), while The Quiet Ones had 1,482 tweets and 165,556 likes. The holy grail for all horror distributors is to have a super cheap micro-budgeted film explode and rake in 20 or 30 times its budget in the first week. Though I don't have the numbers to back it up at my fingertips I'd be willing to bet that this type of profitability occurs most in the horror genre. However, one thing is ubiquitous across moderate to huge successes and that is that the online buzz needs to be massive. Looking back at Paranormal Activity, The Conjuring, Insidious 2, Sinister and countless others in the pantheon that rings true. As Above/So Below has gotten off to a decent start (moreso on Facebook than Twitter) but really anything more than high single digits to low double digits is very doubtful at these levels. Still, that might be enough to turn a profit for the micro-budgeted pic which would give Legendary a win for its first low budget entry into the market.

November Man showed its age on Monday as it landed way down the list with a paltry 768 tweets despite having a unique name for clean and clear tracking. Its Facebook numbers were marginally better (kid of) with 106,007 likes. It is true that Brosnan fans will be long in tooth so social media numbers would be muted but the genre should offer a slight boost (over say a drama) and the fact that Monday was actually only two days before release means that this is one of the lowest day totals so far on the year. Needless to say I don't have high hopes for the film. By comparison, Three Days To Kill had 1,296 tweets and 78,489 likes two days before its release back in February. This one might be lucky to see $10 million by the end of the weekend.

Guardians of the Galaxy claimed first place this weekend with $17.20 million. The blockbuster sci-fi superhero adaptation from Marvel returned to first place after finishing in second each of the past two weekends. Guardians of the Galaxy held up extremely well this weekend, as it was down just 32 percent from last weekend. Guardians of the Galaxy surpassed the $250 million mark this weekend and has grossed $251.46 million in 24 days. That currently ranks the film as the third highest grossing release of 2014 thus far domestically (behind only Captain America: The Winter Soldier and The Lego Movie). Guardians of the Galaxy is set to move into first place for the year within the next week.

After leading the box office each of the past two weekends, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fell to second with $16.73 million. Paramount's successful franchise re-launch was down a solid 41 percent from last weekend. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles continues to exceed expectations in a big way with $145.54 million through 17 days of release. The film will zoom past the $150 million domestic mark within the next week and should continue to further stabilize next weekend with help from the Labor Day holiday.

Warner's If I Stay debuted in third with $15.68 million. The low-budget drama starring Chloë Grace Moretz opened on the low end of pre-release expectations and performed fairly well with its cost in mind. If I Stay opened slightly below the $16.10 million debut of last year's Carrie, which also starred Moretz. Due in part to its different genre and in part to the limited amount of new wide releases over the next few weeks, If I Stay will hope to hold up better going forward than Carrie did. If I Stay opened with $6.83 million on Friday (which included an estimated $1.1 million from late night shows on Thursday), fell 18 percent on Saturday to take in $5.62 million and fell 42 percent on Sunday to gross $3.23 million. That placed the film's opening weekend to Friday ratio at just 2.30 to 1. The audience breakdown for the film skewed heavily towards female moviegoers (77 percent) and moviegoers under the age of 25 (61 percent). If I Stay received an encouraging A- rating on CinemaScore.

Let's Be Cops followed in fourth with $10.81 million. Fox's low-budget action-comedy held up well in its second weekend, as it was down 39 percent from last weekend. Let's Be Cops has grossed $45.06 million in twelve days. That is in line with the lower end of expectations and places the film 21 percent behind the recent $56.99 million twelve-day take of Tammy. Let's Be Cops will likely continue to hold up well going forward thanks in part to no new comedies entering the marketplace the next few weeks.

Sony's When the Game Stands Tall rounded out the weekend's top five with $8.38 million. The low-budget drama from TriStar and AFFIRM Films opened just below pre-release expectations and 14 percent below the $9.78 million start of Draft Day earlier this year. When the Game Stands Tall opened with $2.95 million on Friday, increased 15 percent on Saturday to gross $3.38 million and declined 39 percent on Sunday to gross $2.05 million. That gave the film an opening weekend to Friday ratio of 2.84 to 1. When the Game Stands Tall received a promising A- rating on CinemaScore and will have a good chance of holding up well going forward.

Meanwhile, fellow new release Sin City: A Dame to Kill For absolutely stumbled out the gate this weekend with an extremely disappointing eighth place start of just $6.32 million. The graphic novel adaptation sequel from The Weinstein Company opened well below all expectations and a massive 78 percent below the $29.12 million start of 2005's Sin City (which didn't the advantage of higher priced 3D admissions). Unlike 300: Rise of an Empire earlier this year, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For was unable to overcome the long gap in time between it and its predecessor. The film opened with $2.62 million on Friday, fell 18 percent on Saturday to take in $2.14 million and declined 27 percent on Sunday to gross $1.56 million. That placed the film's opening weekend to Friday ratio at 2.41 to 1. Sin City: A Dame to Kill For received a lackluster B- rating on CinemaScore.

The Expendables 3 and The Giver claimed sixth and seventh place with respective weekend takes of $6.49 million and $6.43 million. The two films were separated by just $51,145 for the frame. The Expendables 3 fell a sharp 59 percent from last weekend, while The Weinstein Company's The Giver was down a reasonable 48 percent. Respective ten-day totals stand at a very disappointing $27.40 million for The Expendables 3 and at a solid $23.80 million for The Giver.
