Iola, KS -- With the signing of the Palace Theatre in Vinton IA, Sonic Equipment Company is announcing that they have signed their 150th digital conversion to date. Sonic has signed and installed systems across the United States as well as in Canada. Sonic's Sales and Installation teams work together, and with their customers, to provide site surveys, comprehensive quotes and timely installations using a variety of equipment manufacturers to keep up with customer demands.

Sonic has signed and/or installed equipment in a total of 14 states in the US, and notably their first location in Canada, since late in the year 2008. These locations range from Texas to Ohio, Florida to Minnesota, and from Kentucky to Tennessee. Those that have signed on to have their digital equipment provided and installed by Sonic Equipment, ­­ have also signed Sonic's customizable service contract to maintain and monitor their important investments.

"We were able to be aggressive with our sales and installation choices by preparing and training our staff for the digital rollout, before it arrived", said Sarah Noah, Sales Manager at Sonic. "We also built solid relationships with the Digital equipment manufacturers and with the studio's integrators", add Noah. Sonic has prepared for this increase in business by continually adding to both their sales, and install teams. Sonic now has over a dozen fully-trained install and service technicians and a full team of knowledgeable sales people to help with everything needed for a digital conversion or a complete remodel. "Many theatres are making the choice to upgrade in other areas of the theatre operation while converting from the old 35mm to digital", says Kaye Koonce, the newest member of the Sonic Sales Team. Kaye came to Sonic in April, having worked in the industry in Texas for the past several years.

Magnolia Pictures will distribute Alex's Gibney's untitled documentary about former New York State Governor Eliot Spitzer. The film won rave reviews out of the Tribeca Film Festival.

Gibney is a busy man these days. His Casino Jack and the United States of Money, which focuses on lobbyist Jack Abramoff, opened on May 7. Magnolia also is responsible for distributing that film. Unfortunately, despite winning rave reviews, Casino Jack hasn't quite caught on yet. The doc has raked in just shy of $60,000 from 11 locations.

KITCHENER, ON - Christie® announced that Cinemas Guzzo, a Canada-based leading independent cinema chain has purchased 57 Christie SolariaTM series digital cinema projectors, which utilize Academy Award1-winning DLP Cinema® technology from Texas Instruments' (TI) (NYSE: TXN). Cinemas Guzzo, a family owned business founded in 1974, with 148 screens in 11 theatre complexes throughout the Montreal area, has launched several waves of expansion - the most recent being a new generation of avant-garde entertainment centers.

Founder Angelo Guzzo is one of the earliest pioneers of independent multi-screen movie theatres in Canada. He was instrumental in leading the struggle for independent theatre owners to obtain the right to project first-run movies, paving the way for others. Along with his son Vincenzo, Executive Vice President of Cinemas Guzzo, they are tapping into their passion for cinema to successfully expand their presence across Quebec. Over the next few years, they anticipate opening three new 100% digital multiplexes, all using Christie projectors.

Installation began in January of this year and Cinemas Guzzo anticipates that all 57 Christie Solaria projectors of which 30 are Christie CP2230's will be fully deployed by November, in time for the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday weekend. At that point, they will have doubled their 3D capacity in all 11 theatre complexes. Cinemas Guzzo also selected GDC servers and Master Imaging's 3D technology.

"Digital 3D makes a very big difference to the audiences we cater to. We plan to install at least four digital projectors in each theatre to run 3D content in dual languages. It's great to have the flexibility to show two different 3D titles simultaneously. Our goal is to have 50% of our screens showing 3D to take advantage of the slew of 3D coming down the pipeline," said Guzzo.

WASHINGTON-MPAA President and Interim CEO Bob Pisano joined lawmakers today in unveiling the five countries on the 2010 priority watch list of the Congressional International Anti-Piracy Caucus (IAPC), calling on governments around the world to develop and enforce remedies to deal with the mounting global problem of intellectual property theft. The five countries placed on the IAPC's 2010 watch list are Canada, China, Mexico, Russia, and Spain.

"I sincerely appreciate the work of the Congressional International Anti-Piracy Caucus and its recognition of the problems posed by global piracy. These members' efforts are essential to motivating governments to take action. I look forward to our continued work together to promote copyright protection and the enforcement of intellectual property rights," Pisano said.

The bipartisan and bicameral IAPC, created in 2003 and now led by Senators Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) and Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and Representatives Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), is committed to protecting American intellectual property and reducing the scourge of piracy abroad.

"More than 2.4 million people work in the US motion picture and television industry all across the nation, earning over $41 billion in wages," Pisano said. "These are creative, good-paying jobs - including costume designers, truck drivers, stage crews, actors, architects, directors and accountants, who face the relentless challenge to their livelihoods from IP theft. Overseas markets are vital to the motion picture industry's continued strength and success. The industry has a $13.6 billion trade surplus."

"As the industry is continually seeking new and innovative ways to deliver creative content to consumers, particularly over the Internet, it is especially critical that U.S. trading partners have effective legislative frameworks for protecting creative content online and that they enforce intellectual property rights in the digital environment.

"A high level of piracy, especially as seen in the countries on the watch list, is detrimental to any country's economic growth. The increasing scourge of online copyright theft underscores the need for all governments to develop and vigorously enforce effective legislative solutions to address online piracy and to encourage greater inter-industry cooperation in the fight against it. In today's digital marketplace, the theft and illicit online distribution of creative content in these major markets affects and health and viability of creative industries around the world.

"For instance, Canada lacks the basic protections for the digital environment and is a safe haven for Internet pirates. Amendments to Canada's Copyright Act to implement the WIPO Internet treaties and clarify ISPs role in discouraging copyright infringement are vital to the development of new business models and to fostering legitimate electronic commerce.

"In Spain, Internet piracy has reached an epidemic level, damaging both US and Spanish creators. Legislation is currently pending in Spain that would address Spain's rampant online piracy problem and I hope that the government continues to press forward and that the legislation is not weakened during the forthcoming Parliamentary journey.

"An environment that fosters new business models entails not only the establishment of adequate rights and remedies under copyright law, but also rules that compel all entities involved in the transmission of copyright materials to implement reasonable practices.

"The United States is a world leader in producing creative products and the integrity and development of our cultural industries is dependent upon effective legislative and enforcement regimes that protect intellectual property.

"Our challenge is to convince those other trading partners that continue to allow piracy to fester unchecked that their economies are being hurt, that their creative industries are suffering, and that their GDP and job growth is stunted by their failure to take this issue seriously.

New York, NY - Screenvision, the leading innovator in cinema advertising, has partnered with Hannover House, the entertainment distribution division of Target Development Group, to support the May 21st theatrical release of Racing Dreams. Racing Dreams is an award-winning documentary that offers a poignant look into the lives of two boys and a girl who dream of one day racing in NASCAR®.

Through the deal, Screenvision will help Hannover House expand the film's distribution by making it available to its exhibitor partners through the Screenvision digital in-theater network. Additionally, Screenvision will offer marketing support for the film through its pre-show programming and other in-theatre assets. Racing Dreams marks the second time that Screenvision has been involved in a film's theatrical release and the initiative serves as a further extension of the partnership between Screenvision and NASCAR®.

For the May 21st release, Screenvision will digitally distribute the film to theatres owned by Rave Motion Pictures and Malco Theatres in Tennessee, Arkansas, Michigan, Texas, Alabama and Florida. Wider distribution is planned subsequently.

The film, which won the Best Documentary Award at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival and went on to win Best Documentary Awards at the 2010 Indianapolis International Film Festival and the Jacksonville Film Festival, also took home the Silver Hugo Award at the 2010 Chicago Film Festival.
