gdc.pngBIRTV, Beijing (August 28, 2014) - GDC Technology ("GDC Technology"), a world leading digital cinema solution provider, has shipped over 14,000 units of its SX-3000 Standalone Integrated Media Block® (SX-3000 IMB) globally, making it the most widely installed IMB on the market.

As the industry's first standalone IMB, the SX-3000 IMB sets the standard for simple and hassle-free digital cinema solutions. The SX-3000 IMB significantly lowers operation, maintenance and installation costs by eliminating the need for an attached server - while offering High Frame Rate ("HFR") capability in both 2D and 3D, live 3D support, digital connectivity for alternative content such as 3G HD-SDI and HDMI input with image-scaling from HD to 2K. In addition, the unit allows long distance 2K and 4K content streaming and remote access via gigabit Ethernet to simplify multiplex cinema operations.

"Global response towards the SX-3000 IMB has been overwhelming as exhibitors are actively selecting next-generation integrated media blocks to upgrade their performance for the digital age. Offering cutting-edge technology with increased operational and cost efficiency, the SX-3000 IMB fits that role perfectly," explained Dr. Man-Nang Chong, founder and CEO of GDC Technology. "We are fully committed to meeting the needs of our customers by developing digital cinema solutions that inspire and engage."

SX-3000 IMB sales have grown 2% year-on-year since its introduction in H1 2013, reinforcing GDC Technology's position as one of the world's leading digital cinema solution providers. As of July 2014, GDC Technology holds the largest share of Asia's digital cinema server and theater management system market, and is the No.1 digital cinema server provider in China, South Korea and Taiwan - with approximately 61%, 74% and 50% market share, respectively. GDC Technology is the second largest digital cinema server provider in the United States with more than 11,000 servers installed.*

Guardians of the Galaxy took in $2.11 million on Tuesday to lead the daily box office once again. The blockbuster sci-fi superhero adaptation from Disney and Marvel was up 27 percent over Monday and down a very solid 40 percent from last Tuesday. Guardians of the Galaxy has grossed a massive $255.23 million in 26 days. That currently ranks the film as the third highest grossing release of 2014 thus far domestically (behind only Captain America: The Winter Soldier and The Lego Movie). Guardians of the Galaxy is now just $4.54 million away from surpassing the $259.77 million final domestic gross of Captain America: The Winter Soldier for first place.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles grossed $1.66 million to remain in second. Paramount's successful franchise re-launch increased 28 percent over Monday and fell 53 percent from last Tuesday. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles continues to exceed expectations in a big way with $148.49 million through 19 days of release. The film is now just $1.51 million away from reaching the $150 million domestic mark and is set to reach the milestone on Thursday.

Warner's If I Stay held steady in third place with $1.54 million. The low-budget drama starring Chloë Grace Moretz was up a solid 21 percent over Monday, though that also represented the day's poorest daily percentage hold among wide releases. If I Stay continues to perform towards the lower end of expectations with a five-day start of $18.48 million. That places the film essentially on par with the $18.41 million five-day take of last year's Carrie.

Let's Be Cops followed in fourth place with $1.30 million. Fox's low-budget action-comedy was up 27 percent over Monday and down 48 percent from last Tuesday. Let's Be Cops has grossed a very solid $47.39 million through two weeks of release and is set to surpass the $50 million domestic mark on Friday.

It was a very close three-way race for fifth place on Tuesday between The Giver, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For and The Expendables 3. The Weinstein Company's The Giver led the trio with $0.773 million, fellow Weinstein Company release Sin City: A Dame to Kill For followed in sixth with $0.765 million and Lionsgate's The Expendables 3 landed in seventh with $0.758 million. Respective total grosses stand at $28.73 million for The Expendables 3 in twelve days, at $25.17 million for The Giver in twelve days and at just $7.69 million for Sin City: A Dame to Kill For in five days.

meyersound.pngFor its first location outside of the Northwest, the Cinetopia theatre chain has built three massive GXL screens, each equipped with a Meyer Sound cinema system and Dolby Atmos. Named Overland Park 18, this eastern Kansas theatre complex boasts close to 200 Meyer Sound cinema loudspeakers.

"When we played our demo reel, we would hear a gleeful chuckle and hear comments like, ‘I've never heard anything like that before,'" says Rudyard Coltman, owner of Cinetopia. "We pride ourselves on the fact that we've been told this theatre is 10 to 15 years ahead of the industry in the technology and amenities it offers."

The local media also noted the life-like detail of the Meyer Sound cinema loudspeakers. "When I heard the rain falling on screen, I could make out the drops, not just a swoosh," writes Jeneé Osterheldt, lifestyle columnist for The Kansas City Star.

All three GXL rooms feature five Acheron® 100 and five Acheron LF screen channel loudspeakers as well as eight X-800C high-power cinema subwoofers and two 500-HP subwoofers for low-end reinforcement. In addition, the slightly larger Screen 1 utilizes 20 HMS-10 and 18 HMS-12 surround loudspeakers with IntelligentDC technology, while Screens 2 and 3 each deploy 42 HMS-10 and 6 HMS-12 loudspeakers. Each system relies on a Galileo® loudspeaker management system with one Galileo 616 processor for drive and optimization.

"Meyer Sound is a core component of our GXL concept," states Coltman. "Other cinemas offer their brand for a premium, large-scale format, but GXL stands apart in all respects, including sound. It's a no-compromise approach, and Meyer Sound is an integral part of it."

In addition to the Meyer Sound implementation of Dolby Atmos, Cinetopia's GXL rooms offer giant screens up to 75 feet wide and four stories high, 4K digital projection, and steeply raked coliseum seating with high-backed reclining seats.

Meyer Sound cinema systems are also installed at Cinetopia locations Progress Ridge 14 in Beaverton, Ore. and Washington state's Vancouver Mall 23, which features Dolby Atmos. According to Coltman, Cinetopia will continue its national expansion, with its next luxury complex slated to open in the Dallas suburb of Lewisville. "Meyer Sound is ingrained in the GXL brand, so it's part of what people identify as the unique experience found only in our theatres," says Coltman.

Built for linear reproduction, Meyer Sound cinema systems are ideally suited for immersive formats like Dolby Atmos as the loudspeakers faithfully reproduce soundtracks with greater headroom, lower distortion, and superior uniformity. IntelligentDCTM technology is available in all Meyer Sound surround models to offer the advantages of self-powered, bi-amplified systems.

As one of the most influential conferences in the broadcasting industry in Asia, BIRTV focuses on content, and gathers the latest developments and global inspiration for technical innovation.

Volfoni will exhibit at BIRTV booth # 2A228 and show their premium cinema system, SmartCrystal Diamond, which uses Volfoni's "triple beam technology." The company is also happy to report that its unique "triple beam technology" is protected by a Chinese patent granted by the State Intellectual Property Office of the PRC. The granting of this Chinese patent reinforces Volfoni's protection of its innovative 3D technology IP in the Chinese market.

"The granting of this patent for our technology shows that Volfoni values this market very much, and that our capacity for innovation is recognized across the globe, especially in China. This patent will be very advantageous for Volfoni's rapid development in China," says Thierry Henkinet, CEO of Volfoni. Volfoni's presence in the country continues to grow. The company now counts over 300 cinema installations in China, and has worked with notable installers such as East Technology (Asia) and Beijing Xinya Tianying Technology.
