San Francisco - Dolby Laboratories, Inc. announced today that it is providing technical services as well as cinema technology solutions to the 2008 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) for the 15th year in a row. By using Dolby® Digital Cinema and Dolby E technologies this year, TIFF transitions into the digital age, allowing filmmakers the ability to showcase their digitally developed movies in an immersive digital audio and video environment for attendees.

TIFF will outfit all of the Toronto video-capable venues with Dolby E decoding, thus providing emerging filmmakers the flexibility to showcase their 5.1-channel mixes before engaging in the complex film postproduction process. Dolby E is a professional digital audio coding technology that optimizes the delivery of multichannel audio through a two-channel infrastructure, enabling festival filmmakers who use Dolby E to present their six-channel mix directly from a HDCAM tape.

In addition, the Festival will outfit four venues with Dolby Digital Cinema, a complete digital system for storing, managing, and playing digital movies, for the presentation of movies that have gone through digital cinema packaging (DCP) in postproduction. Dolby is a leader in DCP packaging, providing both services and encoding equipment. Unlike traditional film, digital movies maintain pristine quality and a rock solid image for every presentation, eliminating film scratches and screen dust that distract from the moviegoing experience.

NEW YORK - ShowEast will honor Griselda Fortunato, Managing Director of Warner Bros. and Twentieth Century Fox Argentina, with its “International Achievement in Distribution” award at the 2008 convention, announced Mitch Neuhauser, Co-Managing Director of the event. Ms. Fortunato will receive this honor as part of the International Day programming, to be held on Monday, October 13th at the Orlando World Center Marriott in Orlando, Florida.

Griselda Fortunato joined the business in 1997 as Managing Director of Warner Bros and Twentieth Century Fox in Argentina. During this more than 10 years in this position, she handled distribution for very successful films and sagas such as: Titanic, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings trilogy, X-Men trilogy, the first three episodes of the Star Wars franchise, “Batman Begins” and “The Matrix”. More recently she has overseen films such as “Ice Age 2”, The Dark Knight, The Simpsons Movie, I Am Legend and Get Smart. Being the head of two of the most important studios in Argentina enables her to work more efficiently by combining sales initiatives with marketing activities.

Before Warner and Fox, Fortunato spent more than 10 years working in the Petroleum business for Exxon Corporation and, before that, in the Banking sector for Bank of America and The Chase Manhattan Bank with designations in Argentina and also abroad.

Fortunato always says that this is the best job she has ever had where creativity and common sense are part of every day decisions to face new challenges in an ever changing business.

Los Angeles - Cinema Buying Group (CBG), a buying program for independent theaters administered by the National Association of Theatre Owners, today announced an agreement with RealD, the world’s largest digital 3D experience provider. The agreement brings next-generation 3D capability to CBG’s independent cinemas, currently totaling over 8,000 screens in the United States and Canada.

With CBG’s earlier announcement of Access Integrated Technologies, Inc. as its selected digital integrator, the essential ingredients for taking North American independent cinema operators into the digital era, including digital 3D capability, are now in place.

The new generation of digital 3D exemplified by RealD has been hailed as the most vital and exciting development in cinema since the advent of color film.

Wayne Anderson, CBG’s managing director, said, “CBG is committed to bringing the best 3D experience possible to our members. We are very pleased that we can offer a simple, affordable, and superior 3D experience to all of our cinema guests. As the penetration of digital screens grows, we anticipate RealD installations to top 1,000 among CBG members.”

NEW YORK - It was announced today that Ken Higgins, Vice President & Head of Film for Cinemark International, will be honored with the “International Achievement Award in Exhibition” at this year’s ShowEast Convention in Orlando, Florida. “ShowEast is thrilled to recognize such an important and highly regarded executive of the international exhibition community,” stated Mitch Neuhauser, Co-Managing Director of ShowEast. “At Cinemark, Higgins has played a key role in Cinemark becoming the global company it is today”.

Ken Higgins began his involvement in the development of the international market for Cinemark in 1991 when he was selected by Lee Roy Mitchell to determine which regions of the world best fit Cinemark’s expansion. In 1992 the decision was made that Cinemark would expand into Latin America. Higgins became the President of Cinemark Mexico and began to assist in the expansion plans.

Higgins played a key role in Cinemark becoming a global company when Cinemark International opened their first theatre outside of the U.S. in Chile in 1993 and then in Mexico in 1994. In 1996 Higgins became Vice President & Head of Film for Cinemark International. He has seen many changes in the industry over the last 39 years and is looking forward to the next decade heading down the 3D and Digital path.

Today Cinemark has 121 theatres with 1,011 screens in 12 countries. Cinemark International has eight foreign offices.

The presentation of the 2008 “International Achievement Award in Exhibition” will take place on Monday, October 13th at the Orlando World Center Marriott as part of the Annual International Day Program. Past winners include Alejandro Ramirez Magaña and Cinépolis, Francisco A. Gonzalez, Sr. and MMCinema; Munir Falah and Cine Colombia; and Tim Warner and Cinemark International.
