CULVER CITY, Calif., -- Rhys Ifans will play the villain, opposite Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, in the next installment of Spider-Man from Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios, it was announced today by Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment and Matt Tolmach, president of Columbia Pictures. The film, to be directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and produced by Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin, will begin production in December and will be released in theaters nationwide in 3D on July 3, 2012.

Commenting on the announcement, Tolmach said, "We have been very fortunate to attract some of the best actors working today to play the villains in the Spider-Man movies, and it is exciting to see that trend continue with Rhys Ifans. After seeing his performance in our upcoming film Anonymous, we're in awe of his talent and think he's the perfect choice to take on this role."

The filmmakers prefer to not reveal which character Ifans will be playing in the forthcoming film.

Webb added, "What sets the Spider-Man villains apart is the complexity of their relationships with Peter Parker. Rhys' incredible ability to embody both warmth and rage makes him the ideal choice for this character."

Spider-Man is being overseen at the studio by Tolmach and Rachel O'Connor. Ifans is represented by United Talent Agency, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, and Independent Talent Group.

RHYS IFANS' breakout performance came in 1999 in Roger Michell's Notting Hill, opposite Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant, for which he received a BAFTA Film Award nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role. Prior to that, Ifans starred in Heart, Twin Town, August, and Dancing at Lughnasa, and since then, he has appeared in more than 20 films, including Vanity Fair; Rancid Aluminium, Little Nicky; The Replacements; Hannibal Rising, Enduring Love; Human Nature; Formula 51; Hotel; The Shipping News; Once Upon A Time in the Midlands, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, Pirate Radio; Greenberg; and Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang. He will next appear in Mr. Nice, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Passion Play, and Columbia Pictures' Anonymous, for director Roland Emmerich.

On television, he played the role of Peter Cook in Terry Johnson's "Not Only But Always," for which he won the BAFTA TV Award for Best Actor. He also appeared in "A Number." In the theatre, Ifans has appeared in "Accidental Death of an Anarchist," "Bad Finger," "Volpone," "Under Milk Wood," "Beautiful Thing," "Thyesters," and, most recently, Patrick Marber's adaptation of "Don Juan in Soho" at the Donmar Warehouse.

NEW YORK -- The Cinema Advertising Council (CAC), a national non-profit trade association which serves cinema advertising sellers, the theatrical exhibition community and the advertising community, announced that Cliff Marks has been elected president and chairman of the industry association, and Loren Venturi-Miller executive director. Effective immediately, they join Bob Brouillette and Laura Adler, returning as treasurer and secretary, respectively.

"With cinema advertising having grown 28% in the past three years, it's an exciting time to be in this segment of the business," said Mr. Marks, who previously held the position of CAC president and chairman from 2006-2007. "Advertisers and agencies are finding new and creative ways to embrace the complete cinema environment, as well balanced part of any sight, sound and motion marketing effort. From on-screen spots and pre-shows that feature thoughtful, branded entertainment, to integration of 3-D, mobile and other new technologies into cinema campaigns - and the CAC and its members will continue to guide the industry as it evolves."

Mr. Marks is also the president of sales and marketing at National CineMedia (NCM), a position he has held since 2002, and was recently identified as #17 on the 2010 "Mediaweek 50" which lists top executives in the advertising and media industry who "advanced innovation, revenue and influence for their companies." Prior to joining NCM, he was SVP national sales for ESPN/ABC Sports from 1989-2002, and a network TV buyer at BBDO Advertising from 1984-1987. He holds a BS in Marketing and Advertising from the University of Florida.

Ms. Venturi-Miller is also the senior VP of national and regional sales at Screenvision, where she has been for over 12 years. There, she is responsible for the strategic direction of the company's national and regional sales efforts as well as overseeing the respective teams in New York, Los Angeles, Detroit, Dallas and Chicago. She is also responsible for the development of engaging cinema advertising platforms as well as the advancement of long-term relationships with key accounts. Prior to joining Screenvision, she worked in executive sales and marketing for Hatchette Filipacchi Media for seven years.

Mr. Brouillette has been a CAC officer since 2004. He is also NCM's senior vice president of business development, where he is challenged to identify and capture sponsorship opportunities, forge new business partnerships with other entertainment and media companies, and create new media solutions for undeveloped NCM client categories. Prior to his time at NCM, Mr. Brouillette held several senior level positions throughout his 17 years in the media industry, including executive VP, marketing and business development at Fanfare Media Works as from 2000-2002; senior VP, marketing and business and at News America Marketing from 1997-2000; and senior VP, sales and marketing for SPAR Marketing Force from 1993-1997. Mr. Brouillette holds a BS from Iowa State University.

Ms. Adler is president of A&G Marketing Group, Inc., and serves clients in both the for-profit and not-for profit sectors, including the CAC which she's managed since its inception in 2003. Ms. Adler worked at National Cinema Network for more than 18 years, where she started her career as an account executive in 1986. She was promoted in 1996 to vice president of marketing and public relations. Ms. Adler graduated with a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University. She also serves on the Board of Advisors for Brainy Camps Association of Children's National Medical Center.
