Dirty Love

Editor: "The title says it's about love. Was it about love?" Reviewer: "Not much." E: "Then what about dirty, at least was it dirty?" R: "Well, in one scene there is a fish sticking out of someone's butt. But the part of the fish you could see wasn't dirty, I guess." E: "Lovely. Oh, saying that reminds me--there's that lovely actress in it, Jenny McCarthy." R: "Yeah, but she wasn't so lovely. She likes being the butt of jokes." E: "That butt?" R: "No, not that butt. I mean she thinks it's funny to make herself look bad--like wearing a V-neck dress and having someone puke down it, or not having enough money for tampons and having a torrential period in a grocery store. I mean, it's all over the aisles." E: "Geez, you'd never think it was her husband directing the film. Well, you never know about people." R: "No, you never know." E: "So, do you think it's all over for her? McCarthy not only starred but wrote the script here." R: "Maybe not. Producers might remember the rom/com she made a few years back with the wonderful Chris Eigemann, the doyen of dour, called 'The Perfect You.' She simply sparkled." E: "But what about 'Dirty Love'? Isn't there anything to recommend it?" R: "I could say it has a supporting cast." E: "So you say it has a good cast." R: "No, just that it has a cast. Eddie Kaye Thomas convincingly plays a nice guy who never convinces as McCarthy's pining love as she sleeps with loser after loser. Carmen Electra plays a hair waxer, and it's true that she never lets the gum she chews get stuck on her clients. Kam Heskin plays a struggling actress who can make her voice flute like Monroe. Then there's Victor Webster as the hunky ex-boyfriend who's into nuthin' but cheatin' and eatin'." E: "The fish?" R: "No, not the fish. Forget about the fish and forget about the butt." E: "Yeah, but will the audience?" R: "What audience?" E: "Oh. So, what, you give it one-and-a-half stars?" R: "Sounds about right. You can't really like a movie that features a beautiful young woman who sometimes is naked and you end up leaving the theatre wishing you could see less of her." Starring Jenny McCarthy, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Carmen Electra, Kam Heskin and Victor Webster. Directed by John Asher. Written by Jenny McCarthy. Produced by Trent Walford, Jenny McCarthy and John Asher. Romantic comedy. A First Look release. Rated R for strong sexuality, crude humor, language and some drug use. Running time: 95 min
