A good ways into this story of two desperado
brothers (George Clooney and Quentin
Tarantino, who scripts) on a run for the border,
the pair along with a hostage preacher
(Harvey Keitel), daughter (Juliette Lewis) and
son (Ernest Liu)--pull into an out-of-the-way
Mexican biker bar. After a drop-dead-erotic
scene a seduction dance by the bar's featured
performer, Santanico Pandemonium
("Desperado's" Salma Hayek), which is one of
the two reasons to see this movie (the other
being an exquisite and far-better-than-needed
turn by Lewis)--the narrative nothingness of
"From Dusk Till Dawn" comes clear: Out of
nowhere, and for no apparent purpose other
than mayhem, it's revealed that the bar
denizens are vampires. That, followed by
particularly inactive action staging by director
Robert Rodriguez, spells a more certain
artistic doom than any vampire could ever
threaten.
