A friendship with a foundation in loyalty and trust is the only thing Tulio (Kevin Kline) and Miguel (Kenneth Branagh) have--until the two con men acquire a map to the legendary City of Gold. After an adventuresome trek, the derring-duo happen upon the legendary City, where they are greeted as gods by the High Priest, Tzekel-Kan (Armand Assante). To perpetuate the mistaken deification, Tulio and Miguel form a partnership with one of the natives, Chel (Rosie Perez), who teaches them her people's customs, games and ceremonies. Now all they have to do is maintain the façade until they formulate a plan to escape with as much gold as they can. But their machinations become complicated when the gods are called upon by the Chief (Edward James Olmos) to save the city from certain destruction, preventable only by divine intervention

   Tulio and Miguel as voiced by Kline and Branagh have a comedic timing that is so sharp, they transcend their two dimensions to vividly convey characters who have gone through a lot together. Each has a distinct demeanor and a different perspective on life. Tulio is the planner and lover while Miguel is more carefree and spontaneously flamboyant. They are very likable characters and as the story goes on, you genuinely care what happens to them.

   "The Road to El Dorado" is a brilliantly animated feature that pays homage to the traditional buddy road trip films of the past. By choosing the best parts from its predecessors and combining them with present technology, the result is a masterful collaboration that is sure to amaze and entertain audiences of all ages.
